Default Keeping the Mice away.....

I know this is kinda like keeping ants away from a picnic, but I am curious what you guys do to try and reduce the risk of mice getting into your stored cars. I know #1 is have them in a tight sealed up building Well, I thought I have that, or at least pretty darn close. I have my cars in a cold storage building that is full masonry & the doors have good seals, etc. I Never worried about mice at all until this spring when I found a dead one laying on the floor of the building. I panicked a bit as I looked through my cars. Fortunately I could't find any evidence that a mouse was in any of them. Whew! But, I decided to scatter glue traps around the outside walls & just about anywhere that a mouse might wonder off too. For the most part the traps just catch spiders. but throughout this summer I have caught two mice. very small ones & maybe 2" long? but I am now a nervous wreck over it. I can't seem to find where they are getting in, but I do know they can get in through a next to nothing crack.

Years ago, when I had so/so winter storage space I used to lay bounce fabric softener in the cars & under the hoods, even on top of the tires. I am not sure if that actually worked or I just got lucky. I would be just devastated if a mouse ever made a nest in one of my cars so I just want to know if you guys know of something that are tried & true. The problem is the building is secure, but its unoccupied 25 days of the month. perfect setting for a mouse to run around with no disruptions or things to scare them off.

I know there are some really good traps homemade and otherwise, but would't baiting traps with food possibly bring more mice into the building, or would that not really matter?

Thanks for your ideas.

Suppose this is old news for people that deal with it all the time. Didn't spend much time researching & I have never had a real problem before. Sorry about that. Wasn't trying to annoy anybody.

Any mods want to delete this thread, that would be fine..

The peppermint oil still seems to be working for me..about two years after I mentioned buying it in one of those threads. You do have to refresh it every few weeks but it seems to be effective.

OK,some will thinks its BS BUT,I had a travel trailer in the Imperial Valley for my duck club. When I put it there we started having mice issues.I found a product at Loews called Pestchaser by Victor, the trap people. You need 110 power but after I plugged them in we had no issues over 5 years.Just a couple month ago found some dropping in my storage room behind my house.Cleaned them up,put a couple of the pestchaser in and no new droppings. They put out a freq that they dont like.Tom

Don't cover your car. Mice like dark places.

Not annoyed; I am paranoid about mice.

I use: snap traps, round traps, sticky traps, poison packets, dryer sheets, the frequency output things and a cat.

I've found mouse poop on top of the frequency output things; I've had the best luck with the old school spring loaded snap traps. Last year was my first year using "Cab Fresh" from the TSC store - it seemed to work ok.

My swimming pool is more effective at killing mice than my cat is.

Fill a 5 gallon pail about 3/4 of the way with water and put about 1/2in of sunflower seeds on top. Make sure you leave a little ramp for them to get into the bucket.

I used moth balls and dryer sheets in the past until a friend told me about his Ratzapper killing about a dozen mice in his garage the first week he began using it. So I bought one and it has eliminated the mice problem in my garage.
