Default Hagerty Covers Stupidity!

I was too lazy to move my GTO out of the shop while I rummaged through my 50 Streamliner for parts to take to the chrome shop. As a result I hit the side of my GTO with a piece of trim putting a deep scratch in the paint. I thought my body shop might be able to touch it up before our annual car show next weekend(Nov. 7) but they said it was much more than a touch up and they couldn't get to it for a couple weeks at the earliest.
I called Hagerty and Jake, the CSR was very helpful. He filed the claim and said I had a zero deductible so there will be no out of pocket expense for me.
Can Y'all guess how much my stupidity is going to cost? There is only one scratch in the paint, the other spots are reflections.

$500 labors
$300 materials
$800

and i would definitely touch that up with a brush for the time being - and for the upcoming car show.
It won't be perfect, but it won't be an eyesore.

On a general late model type estimate by an adjuster it would be about 1 hour repair time, 5 hours paint time.
$300 labor and $150-200 materials

He may be moon lighting at Hagerty. My estimate from the body shop was $1,507.50! They will have to blend the drivers door and entire quarter panel on that side and clear that plus the panel across the car in front of the trunk and the passenger side quarter! They told me that had to be done because there would be a hard line if they cut it off anywhere else. I may see what they will charge to clear the trunk while they are doing the rest.

I thought about putting a big band-aide on it for the show or just taping big red arrows pointing to it! I have some paint left from when it was sprayed that I can use to touch it up.

I’ve seen people actually do that with the bandaid at shows, with a sign.....surgery pending, and win an award.

I wish the admins would get the like button issue fixed. Until then I will just have to say I like your reply, I just don't know if I have enough band-aids to cover all the nicks on my car!

Phil, I hope they figured R&I on the rear bumper and all moldings. It would include the rocker moldings, wheel opening moldings, hockey stick (rear body), and convertible top pinch weld moldings, as well as those pieces on the door. That alone is worth several hours of labor.

They did figure all of that.

I thought they would include the deck lid and tail panel also.

Glad to see that's actually going to cover allot of nicks.

I think the deck lid should have been included as well for uniformity. I'm sure they will cover that if requested.

Not really related to your car, but along the line of your post.
We had a customer attempted to put a block heater in His mid 80"s Land Cruiser Deisel.
Worked at a dealer at the time. He removed starter, had to to get to frost plug, drilled a hole in frost plug,
kept drilling and went thru cat part of block and into cylinder liner, thru that and thru piston till he hit the pin.
backed out and got a bigger drill and started again, then he realized what he had done. Had it towed to shop
and insurance paid to remove engine, weld up hole in block, replace liner and fit new piston, reassemble and get running.
So Ya insurance pays for some real Stupid stuff. Sorry about your paint though, accidents do happen, i'm sure you did not mean to hit it.
Unlike our customer.

Hagerty notified me today that they have mailed me a check for the full amount of the estimate. Next step is to set up a time to get my car in the shop. I will ask them about the trunk lid and tail panel.

Shoutout to Hagerty! The obvious thing anyone can take from this is, in your words, "Remember no one is perfect. Everyone's butt has a crack in it".

Btw, smart move on your behalf to own a Pontiac in the first place, smarter yet to have coverage that would remedy such a misfortunate incident.
