Not far from my hometown.
Very interesting factoid, thanks for posting that document.

If it never saw Ohio winters, it should be a very solid car.
Kville is in the central/piedmont area of NC - very good area for rock solid cars.

I can't tell you how many $20,000.00 '65 GTO's I have seen for high $30's to as ridiculously high as $50,000.00

A seller needs to decide whether they are infatuated with it or are selling it.

If you are selling it, put a saleable price on it. If you're infatuated with it, put a ridiculous price on it based on others infatuation who are not buyers and keep room in the garage for it.

I own a 65 Lemans automatic that I’m 99% sure came from the factory without backup lights. Is it supposed to have them? I always figured it was its own option.

I also have a 65 LeMans, auto w/console, and the backup lights are listed as an option on the PHS documents.

VERY late build at 07A
Guessing it was ordered as dealer stock inventory , since it didn't sell until October 15 1965. The 66's were already on the street and dealer lots by then.

Have seen many rock solid NC cars with pimples/blisters/pinholes on trunk floors from un-checked vinyl trunk mats trapping condensation/moisture.

Back-Up lamps were a driver convenience item / option on 64 and 65 A-Body , regardless of transmission type.
If they weren't ordered/charged - you didn't get them.

Kernersville is a small town between Greensboro (my hometown) and Winston-Salem.
GSO and Winston were large metropolitan type cities.
In 1965 Kville was more of a 1-Horse type town , about like Mayberry .

Original Buyer was in Winston
RJR HighSchool in Winston
UNC in Chapel Hill
all good "central/piedmont" locations of NC - not in the mountains or near the coast.


For the longest time (back when) the only dealer i knew of or ever heard about in Kville was Parks Chevrolet and it was small (known as the Little-Cheaper Dealer in their promo's). Kville began to grow around the 80's - slowly.

Car should sell well with detailed pictures and detailed description of originality.
Original seat covers and door panels are big pluses, EUN from P-o-P matching to original engine another biggy. Central NC native big plus.

Color and Powertrain are not big features
but not death strikes

A clean crisp "non-overfluffed" cream puff can be a strong draw.
Clean being major - running and driving major too.

Gauge faces, dash potmetal chrome, steering wheel and ornament, are prime draws if they are minty. PONTIAC tail panel condition is prime draw if minty.

Too many things to see and know to be able to put a realistic value on it.

Agree that this car is likely valued in the $20k range (certainly wouldn't let it go for less than that), but when selling a collector vehicle, I recommend having a professional appraisal conducted to ensure you know exactly what you're working with and don't lose out. There are a lot of internet keyboard warriors who throw out lowball numbers because that's how they value these cars on a personal level. But that can often be very different from what the market will support. Get an appraisal, make a data-driven decision.

I sold my '65 GTO 2 years ago for $26K cash. Buyer didn't hesitate a bit ! He didn't even start/drive it until he left my garage with it. 2-door hardtop, non-original drivetrain or paint/interior, new paint, steelies w/dogdishes, 4-speed, 12-bolt posi, very clean and squared away. Figured I left some money on the table, no sweat, I wanted to sell and believe it went to a good home.
