Power Steering Pressure Hose
I’m pulling out my somewhat leaky power steering pump to rebuild it. I’d like to be able to move the car around a bit while I have the pump off of it, so I’m wondering if I can remove the p/s return line from the steering box and loop the pressure hose around and connect to the return fitting on the box to close the system. I think one of the ends of the pressure hose is the same size as the return line steering box fitting (.375 flare ?). This way i can keep the system intact and not worry about dirt etc if I move the car around using manual steering. Like bypassing a heater core
Doable ? |

When we ran power steering boxes on our race cars (power steering ratio was quicker than manual boxes) we used to loop the hose on the fittings. We ran them that way for years without any incident, so it can be a long term change if you like manual steering, not my preference though.

My buddy raced a '72 Monte set up that way running 9.40's lol!

Yep, the previous owner of my '66 had looped the power steering line and removed the pump, and I drove it that way for years without issue.
