If I were to somehow come to have certain 05 parts (like a hood and rear bumper cover) and wished to offer them in trade for corresponding 04 parts, what is the likelyhood that I would find a willing participant?

I would trade the my '04 hood for your '05 hood. I don't think I want to change the rear because I don't want to change the exhaust on it.

Well, there are some other stipulations to consider: The parts I get will have to be absolutely perfect (like the ones I have to give up), Quicksilver in color, and the "other guy" will bring the parts to my home for the swap on the spot.

My thinking is that since I must be the only guy on the planet that thinks the 04 looks better than the 05, my negotiating position is stronger, so I should not have to do any work (or very little) to make this happen.

Also, not sure this will happen at all, since I have not taken delivery of the 05 "parts" just yet. I might elect to keep them if they grow on me.

Your rules, although fair, exclude me. My hood is perfect, but black.

Personally, I think the 04 exhaust looks better than the 05.

Wait until you've got the "parts". Is this a train wreck or salvage car you're getting? If you like the parts you've got, then great. I personally prefer the '05 hood and rear bumper, so you can't have mine. If you really want '04 parts instead, you're most likely to find someone willing to trade at LS1GTO.com.

No, I purchased an 05. It is still on the boat. I didn't order it so I was unable to get the hood scoop delete option.

Welcome to the club, 455! I would be surprised if you still want to exchange after you get the car. But if you still don't like the scoops I'm sure you'll have a dozen takers on your offer. Unfortunately, as I said, my '04 hood is black.

PS. to Steve and Jeff - I like the looks of the '05 exhaust but like the sound of the '04 better.

Is that because I want to modify it , or because I bought one?

455HO

If your 05 comes in and you absolutely must have an 04 hood instead, let me know. My 04 currently has 2200 miles on it so it is still in perfect shape and I am looking at getting the 05 from a dealer and having it painted. As for the rear bumper, I like the 05 look a bit better but changing the exhaust would be a headache.

Well thank you Chris, but if you and others had me classified as a "hater" you never really read the many posts I have made over the last couple years. My opinion of this car has not changed very much since the very beginning. I have stated many times that I thought the product is a fine piece of engineering, and is arguably at the top of the GM line in many respects. I did/am buying one, so I put my money where my mouth was on that point. However, I have also argued that any car built by Holden employees, in a Holden assembly plant, on the other side of the world, fine as it is, is not a Pontiac GTO. Its not about about "deserve" or "what the VIN indicates", it just doesn't work in my opinion. It's a small point in the scheme of things, and I am a lot less passionate about that one than I used to be, but I still think that marketing plan was not the best move for Lutz/Pontiac. The car could have been imported without alienating a whole bunch of the potential buying pool. Besides, the GTO badges can be removed.

Having said all of the above, I had a buying experience that some of you might be interested in. If you are willing to accept the GMS price (which is not the best deal in the world, but not bad), you can have the car purchased and delivered with the same amount of effort as a pizza. My credit union uses pushes a car buying service (forgotten the name), so I gave them a call just to see how it worked. Within a half hour, the agent called back with my car, at the GMS price. All I had to do was say "go", and the car would be delivered to my house, work or wherever I wanted, and the paperwork would be done on the spot within 30 minutes. In my case, I sat on the fence for the rest of the day and when I did say "go", the car was gone. As it turned out, my second and third choices were available (6 units in all) in the Los Angeles area, but the dealers would not play ball and release the cars to this car buying service. I'm not sure how that deal works, but it's obvious that the locator service will buy the car at less than GMS, so the dealer would take a further hit on price. Anyway, since I was not going to drive 70 miles to buy the car (I avoid LA if at ALL possible), I checked the inbounds at some dealers, and found exactly what I wanted at the dealer that sold me my Yukon. It will arrive after the GMS deal expires, but I could sign the purchase contract now to lock the price in. My employer does offer GMS anyway, so I am hoping this deal expires and some incentives return. In any case, the most I will have to pay is GMS, and that is acceptable. Any amount under that is gravy, and I have a car with my name on it. No stress about dwindling inventory and getting stuck with second or third choices in color, and I still have not had to set foot in a dealership.

Thanks Skip,

I have been lurking over there for a long time, but I want to have the car in my garage before I pull the trigger on any trade deals. I know the hood swap is almost a sure thing, but I need to look at the '04 bumper to see if it can be cut or modified for the '05 exhaust.

Here's a modified '04 bumper with cuts for dual splitters. Not sure if its available as a kit or if this was purely custom.

I'm stil waitng to see what the real fix is for the heat soak issue on the intake temp. I know my car at the Southen Nats ran two 133.56s and ALOT of 14.2-14.60s. Hard to brakcet race not knowing which time the car wil run, but then I have the TA for racing anyway.

The Barbados Blue car in Rabon's photo has the '04 SAP (Special Appearance Package) It consists of split dual exhaust, rear fascia, spoiler, rocker trim and recessed front grills. Some of these could be purchased seperately, and I don't know about current availablity. Again, LS1GTO.com is the place to go. As for the '05 rear bumper, one option worth considering rather than replacing it is to paint the lower grey "GTO" insert to match the body color. I haven't seen one done in silver yet, but the other colors I've seen looked very nice.
