Does anyone know how many Formula Turbos were produced in 1980? My brother has a red '80 Turbo Formula with dark Carmine interior, 301 4-bbl T, all the striping,Rallye wheels, and turbo hood without lights. We cannot find any accurate figures on this car. It is bone stock with around 123,000 on the clock, and has been garaged for the past 10 years.Any help to find out its rarity before its restoration would be welcome!!!

From the research I have done, I would guess in 1981 there were less than 400 made. 1980 should be close.

I own an 81'.

I've been told that either Motor Trend, or Car & Driver did an article on the Turbo Formula's when they came out in '80. Supposably the car was on the cover. I have a book that has road tests from high profile magazines, but 99% of them are about T/A's , which is nice, the Formula seems to be the Firebird that is forgotten. My local parts store doesn't even list a Formula in their computers for '80. Thanks for info!!! Keep it coming!!

I read an article once that said something to the effect: We tried to get our hands on a Turbo Formula, but they are more rare than a whooping Crane in Alaska. We had to settle for the TTA.

Too bad mine will be parted out by spring. 40 years from now, it'll be worth something. The 301 is the curse of those cars, and that will never change in the public eye.
