Of Gen 2 birds 70-73 are my favorites but I do like the 76-78 cars. I ever liked the 74-75 bumpers because they looked unfinished, like they were half way between old fashioned separate bumpers and fully integrated 76 and up.

While I do really like the 77-78 I think the 76 is even nicer.

The 79-81 shovel nose isn’t unattractive but not my favorites.

Speaking of hoods, always had a soft spot for the 76 formula hood, shades (oversized shades) of the 68-70 GTO scoops.

nope. She traded for a boring light blue 84 Firebird 305, sales guy was Ron C. A week later I bought the T-1000 in Sanford. Sales guy was Ron's father-in-law. We bought cars again from Ron in 87, a loaded Grand Am and 90, a red GP with red wheels and tan leather with more seat adjustment than I've ever seen before or since. Had 3 lumbar bladders and individual thigh lifts!

70-73 are my Gen 2 favorites as well. I have an 80 T/A and nose/hood/front bumper/valance from a 72 tucked away in my shed. From the rear view, I like the looks of the 79-81 taillights the best, but also like the 70-73 chrome. My 80 T/A is a silver car with a red interior, but I plan on painting it Lucy blue once the 72 nose is put on it. From the inside, I like the horse collar seats, but like the red velour 80-81 seats the best. Also in my shed is a set of horse collar seats and I have the red seat covers. I'd prefer the 80 red velour, but can't find a reproduction set of seat covers for it.

Back to the green 73, agree on most of your criticisms. The dog dish wheels and red line tires look out of place, but retro. Strongly agree the vinyl top does nothing for these cars. For what it costs at the time, I'm really surprised people would pay for it. I somewhat suspect this car was maybe a factory selected combo. I love the color, just because it's different.

If you put a set of 14" honeycombs on it, it would look 75% better.

I had a 76 TA as a winter beater in the 80’s, 455 with silver body and red guts with honeycombs. It was choked with the smog but rather quick and torquey by 76 model year standards. It was a looker and was a joy to drive, smooth, quiet and those custom interior seats were great. Drove much nicer than the early 70’s TA’s that were hard riding cars.

71 GTO convertible at $30K BIN in Illinois. Not sure what it would cost to replace the hood, but the asking price seems reasonable to me. No engine pics, but the seller claims it run well.

Seller should have invested in a hood instead of wheels and tires.

71 Lemans convertible at $40K BIN in Illinois. Nice looking stock car with 26K miles. I have a set of 14 inch honeycombs stashed away for my 69 Firebird just because I love these rims. The interior looks like a rare "born with" color and is really sharp.

I think that is the first time I have seen dark sienna interior in an orange car.
It was probably bronze or copper originally.

Dash bezel is a 70 or 72
71 bezel should be trimmed with faux leather like the console has.

This makes sense. It was very common to cut the radio hole out to put in an aftermarket radio. If you had this car and the radio hole was cut out, I could see replacing it with this bezel. Good price on this car. If I had $40K to spend on a car, I'd consider this one. These old cars are dangerous to drive without shoulder straps, and they're just old, so you really don't want to go that fast. This car doesn't pretend to be anything but what it is, and I really like that.

???

My 71 Sport had none of that: aluminum colored ribs on the bezel and fake woodgrain on the console insert and shifter bezel.

Both of the console equipped cars pictured have the simulated leather on console trim.
Those should have it on the dash bezel too.

Probably a good question for ol' Pinion Head about which cars got the leather trims.
But don't think he frequents this thread

68 Firebird in Texas at $48K, with the longest center console ever. Overpriced IMO..
