Today I got the urge to figure out why I had a chirping noise coming out of my dashboard. It has been bugging me for years but I had largely drowned it out with my exhaust and sound system.

The chirping primarily was happening when I got up to 40 plus MPH and then my speedometer needle seemed to also be bouncing at the same time as the noise.

I started taking a look first at the speedometer cable before ripping apart the dash completely. For once my first guess was correct. Disconnected the speedometer cable and drove it - noise was gone. I shot some Suoerlube PTFE lubricant into the cable and drove it again. Noise was gone and my bouncy speedometer issue was also gone.

My OEM speedo runs off of a SpeedHut GPS speedbox post the LS swap. I thought the bouncy speedo was just how the GPS would function but glad I was wrong. Only took 6 years to figure out this one.

Beautiful ride! And yeah, that's how I look at my '79, too. Plus, I'm liberated from giving a crap what I drive as a commuter car and end up spending way less on that than most people do on their new cars. I'll drive a damn 90's Corolla as my daily driver and spend no more than 5k while people will blow 70k+ on a new SUV. My 70k is instead going to my T/A haha.

The wheels are 17x9 snowflakes from OER/YearOne.

Great job on that build. Looks very enjoyable. I like how it turned out under the hood. Thanks for sharing it. Bummer about Trans am country. I joined there in like 2000 and learned much before getting into the refinishing business.

Thanks Dave!

A minor update for today. Swapped back in a full length drain hose on to the shaker. When it was mounted to the hood that hose had to be cut.

Cool car. I would love to see how the shaker is attached...stanchions secured with the intake or fuel rail bolts?

It’s attached to the fuel rail. There are some small bushings on the bracket to let it shake though the LS doesn’t do a whole lotta shaking.

Thanks! Do the bolts go all the way through the shaker base and shaker and attach with nuts on top, or is it secured in a different way? Can’t tell from the pics and will be tackling this project soon.

There are bolts going thru the shaker base. Not sure if this pic helps but here’s a pic from the inner side of the brackets.

Some improvements to the interior. Had a company custom mix some paint for the under steering panel and the glovebox so it actually matched the dash. That same company helped me fix the console crack.
