Default Vin # for 1967 GTO

Other than the vin tag inside the door jam and the vin stamp on top of the frame behind the left rear wheel, is there anywhere else on the car that the vin is stamped. I thought I read somewhere that the body # is stamped on the firewall behind the a/c box. Any help would be appreciated.

That would have started in 1968 and even then only on Baltimore built cars.
Everyone agree on this?

There should be a vin stamped on top of the frame rail behind the drivers rear wheel under the trunk.

Can the VIN on top of frame rail be accessible to read? Or with a mirror?

I've never known there to be a VIN stamped onto the firewall behind the A/C box for a '67. Certainly wasn't the case on my '66. As far as the frame goes, there should be an 8 character stamping on the top side of the driver side rear frame rail as you mentioned above. The first number will be the year ("7" for 1967), then there should be a "P" for Pontiac, then the last six digits of your VIN, which of course should match the last six digits found on the VIN tag in the door jamb. You might be able to see it using an inspection mirror, but it will probably be difficult due to there often being lots of grime buildup on the frame that will obscure the stamping. Worth a shot, though.

To my knowledge, there are no other VIN stamping locations, partial or otherwise, on your car.

I concur...there was no vin stamping on my 67 Fremont built AC car on the firewall behind the ac box.

Keith I did not know this. Always wondered why all the F Body Plants were stamping bodies in 68 (Lordstown, Norwood and Van Nuys) but only Baltimore and Oshawa for A Bodies.
