Finally got my t/a registered and the stupid government safety you need here so she can go on the road.
Now I want to protect my investment with an appraisal, top-up insurance and a gps tracker. Can anyone recommend a GPS tracker for anti-theft purposes? Most of them seem to be battery powered and have a subscription or byo sim card. It would be nice if it only had the tracking feature, an android app and hard wired. Thanks! |

Where is this mandated? That for insurance, or the Govt?
The reason they are battery is so if your car gets towed off ass end up, and its not on, the car is still trackable. I have used one for freight before, but its not really a small thing. The ones for cars are a actual cell with a number, but can't dial, like a tablet with a cell contract. More secure systems use " i " phone aps. Good luck, curious to see which way you go

I don't think it's mandated by anyone, but iirc some insurers offer a discount if you have this.
I subscribed to see what people might say; I seem to recall these being advertized not so long ago, and they were touted for their small size.

I am also curious. They are used in campers and we have one that could be easily stolen so your post caught my attention. I understand there are paid services but have also seen recommendations for "Airtags". I think these devices will connect by Bluetooth to any nearby phone and relay their location using the phone's internet connection. Might be worth looking into?

i have an airtag, which will be connected to devices on your apple account. If someone steals you car and has an iphone their iphone will let them know they are being tracked by someones airtag so you'll need to hide the airtag in a good place.

I use a Trackimo. Works well, reasonably affordable.

What do you mean when it is towed? Would the hard-wired car battery cut out if it isn't level or do you mean if the unit wasn't hooked up to the constant power wire? |

Oh interesting - I didn't know airtags worked this way - I can't do apple just on principle however...

Oh that hard-wired unit looks perfect - do you have the android or iphone app?
A little more than I was hoping but it's nice to know it works and will be supported for a bit. |

I understand, I won’t use android products or Google for the same reason. Not an Apple fan but their phones work well. The AirTag has a battery the user can replace, unusual for Apple. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ok great - I talked to them to see if I could get a break on price seeing the car is in storage for our long winters here and won't be used but they didn't budge.
See what the competition says - looks like a solid unit. Gooble is evil for completely different reasons...lol |

Great article MZ...apparently they may know me...lol
"Unless you are driving a classic or a junker," I think they put the no monthly fee to spruce up their search engine optimization however as either they build the sim into the purchase price or byo sim. |
