Since 73 GTO hoods are hard to come by, I've decided to make one. I have several of orig plastic inserts, but I sure could use a good template to follow or some good close-up pictures... Also would love to see a photo of the underside to see exactly how the inserts mounted at the factory. I'll be trying this first on my 71 Grand Prix, then move to my 75 Sport Lemans. Thanks in advance. (if anyone has some scoops cut off a real hood... sure would save me from tinkering and bending)....

You can plasma cut the scoop openings out but there is also a lip around the openings because the hoods were stamped out. Would be hard to duplicate but 9 out of 10 people would never notice. Where are you located? I can help you with this project and have a few spare parts also. Jim

rickw, here's a picture of a hood that had the scoop section taken out of one hood an put back into another hood, take note of the lip as Jim stated.
If nobody posts a pic of the underside, I will try an put one up for you by tomorrow night.

I want to do this right, so I guess I'll have to cut just inside of my mark and roll the edges inward with welded corners. Won't have the hard edge the factory got but should look OK. Jim... when you say you have extra pieces?....

I found a 73 Lemans GT with the right hood, but hate parting a nice car, and it's 1100 miles away.

I plan on just coming up with a simple set of brackets to hold the inserts and cut sheet piece of aluminum to funnel incoming moisture to the back and out a tube on the passenger side past the tranny... sounds like a good project for snowy days here in Texas....

I do have the hood section that is in sport coupes picture. I dont have any scoop inserts. A '75 hood wont have the cowl vents in it either. Jim

So Jim, what are the chances that you might sell the scoop section? I already have 3 inserts. If I could afford to buy a 73 GTO I would. Just going about it in a round-a-bout way. BTW, and for the record, I have NO intentions of every putting a GTO emblem in this car, don't mind cloning a look, but a lie is a lie.

Just a small note to pass on. The small indentations around the NASA inserts were the location holes to screw on the upper plentum for the RAM AIR system. Evadently it was in the works as a possibility on these cars with this hood.I think a total of 7 screws held it in place.

Jim, shoot me a price.... even though.... I bought the 75 Grand Am off craigslist in Austin this morning (it has a 73 GTO hood, see: austin.craigslist.org/car/476777604.html). I still plan on giving my 71 GP the NACA scoop treatment though. It's going to be a busy winter, but a good one. This next part you will not believe, and neither will I until I see it– owner told me on the phone that this car has a working RA system under the hood with vented flaps and air cleaner seals. Guessing it's a home-made ordeal, if anything at all.

Usually between 3-5 hundred, pending on condition.
