Default Marty Palbykin's 406 cid Turbo Combination

Several have asked over the years about Marty's engine. Here are some facts on the engine.

The engine was a 1967 Block (2 bolt main acquired from Bill Klausing) in the Detroit area.
The block was bored to 4.15" (.030" overbore).
The block was line bored for splayed and studded main caps (3 in center) with the front cap being a special one created by Marty and Tom Earheart.
The block was vibratory stress relieved before machining and afterward.

Marty used J&E Forged Pistons with moly rings.

Charlie, here is the info you wanted on Marty's heads: Casting #62 heads with 72cc combustion chambers and stainless valves that were ported by Jim Valeko and flowed 245 cfm at 25" of H2O. That would be a 260 cfm head at 28" of water test pressure.

The piston was .030 down in the hole.

Marty used H-11 Com Cams valve springs.

He used a Crane Gold 1.5 ratio rocker arm and Smith Brothers restricted push rods.

He used Com Cams titanium retainers and CC keepers.

We had blank stud girdles machined for tall adjuster nuts that passed thru the stud girdle.

Felpro seals were used as well as an Ultradyne Roller Camshaft. (I still have a spare new cam on the shelf.)

The crankshaft was a RA-V 400 forging (I previously owned) before selling it it Marty. Moldex did the crank finishing to Marty's specs. It was balanced to within .10 grams for the Eagle (very early connecting rods).

The rod bolts were the L19 stuff.

The bearings were Clevite (Michigan) 77 bearings.

The timing chain was a Smith Brother's True Double Roller Chain.
Marty tried a Milodon gear deal earlier.

Marty and Tom earheart designed and built the custom Haltec EFI system for the engine.
It used 160# Ford methanol Injectors. It used two Ford Staged 2 bbl throttle bodies.

It had a custom built turbo exhaust system.

It used a Peterson Dry Sump System

It used a Ford 9" rear axle with a 3.50 gear ratio.

The Intake Manifold was designed by Marty, >Marty's wife Mary, and I and made from parts from a race Chebby Tunnel Ram Intake.

The car with driver weighed 2700 pounds. It went 6.95 at 195 mph and later went 206 MPH.

Any chance you'll make Pontiac Heaven with it this year, Clint?

The sealing rings worked very well on his engine and I think you will be happy with them, Clint.

Thumbs up That...

was one beautiful piece of work and a blast to watch it tiptoe down the track at Norwalk. She looked to be a handful when she got spooled up!

Yep, Marty always had beautiful GTO and excellent workmanship.

Cam specs are "holy crap" and "man that is not what I expected at all".

I think a breakdown of Arnie's RAV - 6 sec. Funny car/engine would be GREAT!

Agree George, maybe someone has the old info on that car.

I am sure Mike or Eric has some knowledge of the specs possible thru discussions with Arnie over the years.

Just so you don't think I was blowing you off, in the last hour I was actually looking for the palbykin turbo camshaft) but I think I will stop looking based on your last post.

V869tr6, Marty sold the camshaft to me. He moved on to BA-8 type engines.

Like I said, I lost interest in looking based on a series of replies to my posts by you in the boost forum lately.

Think about it.

Quote from Marty in another thread on PY:

Our best run with a door car was 6.95 @195 in door car 2900 # 1996
At that time we went threw the traps at 8000 rpm at 36 psi of boost.
Marty Palbykin
I think in one of his other posts on his engine he said he used a cam from Ultradyne
Like the usual specs back then - 278/283 dur .660" lift?

Sorry Tom, if this pissed you off.

"Engineers do stuff for reasons" Did you put together that killer combo to just let it sit? LOL

I understand all things take time, put it together when you want,
but it does look like a killer combo, be cool to see it running.

Like I said you offer lots of info, thanks!

Couple of 76's would make that power pretty readily I bet...
