Its nice to go into this part of the board and read about all the great finds that can be had out there... just curious on how many of us have been 'temped' by a moron who wants to 'score' with our finds/ride?.

for example when I bought my car it wasn't the prettiest gal in town town but it was decent and driveable..so I did.. one day I found a note stuck to it along these lines "Hi. My name is *** and I have been looking for a good economic car that I can afford and that is good with gas mileage (that made me smile..). I am willing to give you $700 for your car right away . please call me. ###-###-####....and god bless you.
jjeeezz I had just paid $4000 for it a couple of weeks earlier... maybe I could've taken the note and gotten a refund from the person I bought it from ....(it was pretty obvious this person knew what a GTO was).

You need to call him and say you'd be happy to take $700 for the Ford Escort you're selling since you just got your new car. Then ask him how he heard about the Escort and how he knew the exact price you were asking for it!

Obviously the person who left the note knew what he was looking at and thought you might be someone who didn't know what you had (like an old person or whatever).

few months ago i blew up the 10 bolt in my '66 gto convertible
5 spd, loaded with options - nice driver condition


so it sat outside for a few weeks, in the middle of town (columbus)

I removed those sort of notes every few days from it


One guy got industrious enough to knock on every door on the street until he found me.

anything is for sale for enough money...but i've already been offerred 23,000 for it

*answer door* Short, fat guy driving a scrap truck (they drive around looking for metal to turn in). He's got a nose that looks like too much crack has been stuffed up it and i can barely understand the West Virginia twang (and i typically like that twang).

when i told him i had a second one for sale for $7,000 that was a little nicer than this one (i didn't even get to say no engine - no trans - all apart and stripped), he snorted something out of that big nose like i was insane and walked off shaking his head without saying another word.

I caught myself looking for something to throw at his fat arse.

I had a 69 GTO in my drive with a for-sale sign on it. The garbage man asked how much one day. So I told him $1200. He said thanks and walked back to the other guy and they laffed in a real obnoxious manner. I swapped the posi out, pulled the NOM 69 400 GTO 2 bbl motor as well as swapping the endura with a lesser one and sold it on ebay for 1200 or 1400 a couple of weeks later.

When I bought the car, a gas station guy laffed that I paid what I did--saying he could buy them all day for 300. I asked where and started naming off the price of the shell, the disc brake setup, the endura, the 69 400 with 7k3 heads rebuilt, the buckets, the posi, etc, etc. He just apologized and said "You're right".

At an auction, I heard a kid walk past a row of cars while I was looking at a 71-72 lemans and he pointed at it and said, "Junk". When the auction ended at $1800, he was just blinking in confusion. It was a running disc brake, bucket, ac, wheel trim car with uncut bezel, other buckets, excellent trunk lid, corvette Q-jet, alum intake, good bumper and rust free floors and trunk. I bought the car at auction about 5 months later as a seizure for a good price. I even sold the Cragar Drag lights off the car before I paid for it. the guys followed me home to take them off in my drive.

A couple of years ago I had a pretty nice original untouched '74 Formula 455. I had the car advertised locally for $5500. Some moron comes out and offers me $2500 for it. I literally laughed in his face. He then takes the $2500 out of his pocket and waves it around. I laughed again and told him to take a hike. A few weeks later I put it on ebay and sold it for $7800.

I guess he thought his cash was gonna do some talking or something.... some people.

Whenever someone asks me if my GTO is for sale, I say, "Yes, I asking $150,000 for it". Barrett-Jackson lunacy can work both ways! That usually makes them go away. Jim

I took a couple of evening classes at the local community college and drove my all original but dull paint 74 T/A 455 to class.

I found several notes on the windshield expressing interest, but the best was from a guy who wanted to trade me an early 80s Honda Civic for it. The note said "I should think about how far a gallon of gas would go in the Civic vs the T/A".

I just ignored them.

I'll admit I've left notes before, but never put an offer on one, just asked if they were interested in selling to call me at XXX-XXXX. I've actually bought 2 pretty nice cars that way, and at fair prices for seller adn myself.

'66 Rambler Marlin, runner driver, minimal rust, 327, auto, all trim $2000
'73 Mustang Mach1, 351C, auto, painted in purple latex with a roller (hiding from Repo) $700 (his pay off, made to the bank so I walked out with the title and his credit wasn't destroyed)

If you don't ask you'll never know. BUT, as I said, I'm not going to insult someone with a stupid lowball offer.

I've left notes on cars, but I always complement the car first then ask them if they need any parts for it to call me. When they call, and most do, then I ask if they are interested in selling. I picked up a 68 GTO Convertible that way.

Well I was curious what he might offer so I called. He went on and on about how his wife had the same car when they were dating. Then he said he popped the hood to see what was in it for power. That’s when things went real bad for him. I made it very clear to him if he ever touched my property without me giving him the ok I would break his fingers.
Call ended right after. The nerve of some people!

well ive had a few low ball offers for my 66 but so insuting but when my dad had car before me and had it painted / interior done with new tires and wheels just to make it presentable id say he sunk a good 10k in it after buying it some guy kept stopping by asking if it was for sell he'd no it isnt for sale then the gy would offer a lowball amount for it he did this twice over about 2weeks then my dad wrecked his 67 chevell then came home to find out that his girlfriend drove the 66 into the back of his ex wifes 71 gp so then he is really in a pissy moodabout the time this guy comes back and jumps staight to the lowballin " since it is wrecked " then about 10 minutes later that guy was waking up and trying find out how he ended up asleep in the driveway . worked out good for me thats how i ended up with the car

Used to get that constantly. So I moved the GTOs, and all the Formulas behind the shop.

One guy had the nerve to get in, sit down, and poke around the 72 Formula. Lucky for him I was in a decent mood so no firearms left the house with me to converse with him. Then he decided it was worth about $500 since its rusty but has a nice interior. Its only a numbers matching 455 HO, so its not worth that much right? Only had to tell him what the last offer from someone who knows what it is was, he looked at me like I had a third eye in my forehead and havent seen him since.

Sitting in my car and poking around is not conducive to remaining healthy.

Even after moving all the musclecars around back, people still stop and ask about the GTO or the 'Camaros' I had. Never in my life have I owned a camaro.. but thats another rant. Living on the main highway, in a place that used to be owned by a guy who sold 50s and 60s cars doesnt help.
