Default '65 Bonnie Option Identification Help

Hi guys:

Thinking about a '65 Convertible for sale and the PHS paperwork has me a bit confused.

Box #71 has a "5" in it and I don't see any way of identifying that code on either the main sheet or the special equipment sheet. Any ideas?

Box #75, 76, 77 has what I "think" (hard to tell) is either VEP or VFP? I "think" (from the Special Equipment Sheet) that this refers to a Heavy Duty Hydramatic Tranny and a Premium Fuel 4bbl Carb. 1) what is the Heavy Duty Hydramatic Tranny as opposed to Box #74 which has a "1" in it identifying the Turbo Hydra-Matic? 2) why would it identify the tranny on the main page and the Special Equipment page if the tranny's are the same?

Am I even close here?

Phil, I ran into a similar thing with my '60. It also has an HD Hydramatic and I saw no difference inside. It may have a slight calibration difference.

Anyone else with any insight? And what is column #71 for that I have a "5" in?

No way I know more about this than Steve, but in the '66 Chassis manual it lists about 6 different TH400s. They are all coded different for the various engine and carb combinations. At one point it was discussed here and the difference in at least the 376 HP TH400 was pointed out.

FWIW my PHS option list does not match up exactly with the original build sheet I have for my car that has been in my family since new.

Block 75,76,77 Says YFP The YF is the engine code, same as on the block.

I suspect block 77 is for the speedometer driven gear but don't know

No clue ATM on block 71.
I can tell you the 65 GP I parted out was 3 and YFP
My 65 2+2 is 7 and WGG

Dude! Jayhawk! EXCELLENT! Spot on! Great catch. That MUST be it. It is consistent with what he says his car has in it.

No all I need is block #71?

Anyone else? So far we've seen them with a 3, 5, and 7! There must be a meaning to it.

Thumbs up Try This......

Just as a thought, maybe you could e-mail PHS back and ask if they can clarify the codes you are looking for?

If ANYONE would have the experiance in understanding the various codes it would be Jim Mattinson (sp).

Just off the topic a bit, I subscribe to the US mag "Sports Car Market". There is a very interesting article in the June issue under Legal Files which details the efforts and difficulties Jim Mattinson has suffered in retaining the rights to the information he offers to the Pontiac community.

We ALL need to be VERY GRATEFUL for his work.

It might be YE (no a/c) YF would be with A/C

Something would have to chuck the correct trans and speedo gear combo in the car and there was a lot of possibilities, hence my guess on box 77.

Wag on box 71
The GP was a floor shift automatic 3?
The 2+2 is a floor shift manual 7?

maybe column shift auto is a 5??

The car I'm thinking of is a floor shift auto ...

It would be greatly appreciated Heybuck!

I didn't get the car ... I made a real good offer but without my knowing he was waiting for money from Sweden ... all the Swedes taking the full size Ponchos! Exchange rates killing us ... Oh well ...

'66 TH400 trans codes on tag on side of trans. Not sure if same for '65:

PA 421 tri-power
PB 389 2bbl
PC 421 4bbl (2+2 only)
PD 389 4bbl
PH 389 heavy duty requirements
PG 421 (4bbl non 2+2)

Book says very important to include this code with all parts inquiries regarding TH400 so must be some internal parts differences.
