Default New Pitman arm

OK, guys, where can you find one? Neither OPGI, Ames or PY carry them.

Rare Parts / NAPA can supply the second design 65 and 66 units. I'd call them on any others also.

Mike,

Will it work with the '61-64 steering links? I'm going to change over to a close ratio steering box.

I have no clue, I'd call them. If nothing else they may be able to rebuild yours? They claim they will build any suspension part from 1930 up.

Thanks, Mike. Mine MAY be OK, but considering I've already found a cracked steering arm, replacing or rebuilding the original one seems to be the most rational thing to do.

Just got off the phone with Rare Parts. The pitman is considered a NON-WEAR part. They can re-bush and straighten the original. To manufacture a new one will be a MINIMUM of $275. Sounds like I'll be spending a little time with the bead blaster..........

hh62,

I concur with the '62 pittman arm being a non-wear item.

although I have not personally done it, a couple friends have put a second-gen F/B QR box on their '62, and IIRC they simply reused the original pittman arm...if yours is junk, I would scour either e-Rape or call the Steves (Barcak out West, Snyder in Indy).

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress...

That's the plan. Remove, bead blast and magnaflux. If there are any problem, send it to Rare Parts for rework.

Matt,

I'm giving serious consideration to having my box converted to a quick ratio box. That way, it SHOULD fit back the way it's supposed to. I'm concerned about the structural integrity of all the steering components. The vehicle was involve in a one car accident when the ball joint failed(minor accident). When I found the cracked steering arm, I decided to magnaflux EVERYTHING including the "A" arms and spindles. Better safe than sorry.

You'll not regret the quick ratio conversion. Add a couple sway bars while you're at it!
