Default Dot 3 vs Dot 5?

Would I be able to determine which Dot brake fluid I have in my brake system by either putting a small amount of fluid from my MC on a painted surface or immersing a small section of rubber tubing in my MC overnight? Thoughts?

IMHO, If in Doubt Flush it Out.
Why guess, start over with a fluid of choice.
I prefer Dot 5 and have NEVER had any issues with using it in my '66.

The reason I was trying to determine which fluid I had was that I wanted to top off my MC. Got a very small amount out of my MC, got it to make a very small "puddle" by tilting my container. Added a couple drops of water. Could not make the water absorb into the brake fluid. Looks like I've got Dot 5 to me.
