'65 car of the year
Went by Hobby Lobby and looked more closely at the Testor's decal kit. Also searched around on sites used by modelers to see what they had to say. My conclusion is that this kit may be okay for models displayed in glass cases in a climate controlled environment, but probably not durable enough to use on something that is subjected to direct sun, temp and humidity fluctuations, etc. It sounds like you print the image on special clear or white paper, but then have to apply some kind of Testor's dedicated clear spray to prevent the ink from running when you soak the decal in water to apply. I have to wonder what kind of durability would be the result. The whole thing sounded pretty Mickey Mouse to me, and there were a number of negative reviews, so I don't guess I'll be trying this for my COTY sticker.

I have been playing with this also... I have a cleaned up graphic done in Illustrator, I need to bring it home. While the image is sharp, reproducing the gold background is the tough part...

Did anybody ever successfully get these decals made? I'd buy a few...

There is a reproduction on eBay.
It adheres to the outside of window. The Original was a water slide decal for the inside of wing window. CT

Ok, I got mine in the mail today. I am more than satisfied with what i got for what i paid. That being said, it is indeed a decal printed on white vinyl that will have to be stuck to the outside of the glass. It looks ever so slightly grainy or pixilated if you will. That being said, if you wanted to make a waterslide out of it, someone would have to scan it and sharpen it up with some software i'm guessing. It'll look great on the car, and i'm more than happy with what I received, but the councours purist will find it to be lacking.

He's got some "more corrector" ones now. I did buy a pair, well made like the first set but the color and size is closer, and they go on the inside. Quite nice for what it is. Still not a water slide for the purist, but much closer to original. https://www.ebay.com/itm/383744221120

These are waterslides. I wish the background was a little more to the gold side. Seems getting an exact color is the most difficult. And honestly, what was the colors 56 years ago???
The 2 laying horizontal are from the internet. "Bill"! |
