HVAC sealing
Anyone have any good suggestions for replacing the OEM sealant used around the various HVAC cases and components? OEM seemed to use some kind of butyl rubber, still pretty soft after 50 years, peels off pretty easy.
Maybe some of that 3M strip caulk? |

Thats what I used on my heater housing.
I also noticed the factory applied a brushed on rubberized sealant over all the openings in the firewall including the rubber plugs for the auxiliary wiring harnesses. This is detailed in the assembly manual. I've asked and searched on this and the Chevelle forums and got crickets. So I found this at the Home Depot. Haven't used it yet but it looks promising

Thanks, just ordered a 60' box of the 3M.
Is it useful for various other places on the body/interior? Looks like they used some similar in places like the inside of the wheel wells where they meet the quarter. I assume it's not a replacement for the brushed on seam sealer? I'll pick up some of that Rustoleum product too .... looks like a good thing to have around the house anyway. |

Strip caulk is also used on the air box plenum in the passenger kick panel.
Cork tape is used to seal the bulb to the pipe coming out of the front of the AC suitcase. The cowl uses a brushable seam sealer, I don't think strip caulk will work there Sent from my SM-T817V using Tapatalk |

Cork Tape is that strange formable sponge rubber looking stuff? Usually dried out and hardened up on old cars and other AC units?
