Carb Coloring
I'm not a fan of painted carbs. I have all my restored carbs dichromated, both Tri-Power and Q-Jets. The pictures show the result.
Sometimes, however, after a carb is assembled, there are defects in the dichromate from handling during assy. I sometimes use Eastwood Carb Renew II to touch up these defects. Eastwood has discontinued this product. Does anyone know of paint from another vendor that is similar to the Eastwood product?

Man, Dick, this is a hard one. Out of curiosity I looked at a zillion web sites. Nada. Best I could find is this one:
https://www.forbbodiesonly.com/mopar...-paint.138574/ Hope it's somewhat helpful.

I use real Sodium bi chromate crystals I buy in Russia. Make sure zinc is good, then a quick dip and its all good. May need a tiny amount of sulfuric acid in the bi chromate if its been sitting to help it etch to the zinc. Of course you are taking apart the carb, but usually it's the air horn people want fixed, which isn't as bad as a whole carb tear down.
Paint? I would check with Corvette Paragon, those guys are Anal about this stuff. |

If the castings are coming out "blotchy" and not a good uniform color it may be in the base material. The more "weathered" and aged the carbs are the less uniform the appearance will be and it will also tend to rub off some. This assumes correct preparation of the castings right to start with.
Not really much you can do about that besides adding some sulfuric acid to the solution you dip them in as mentioned to try to etch them deeper and get a better overall appearance........FWIW.....

I had my carbs plated, and the ends did not look good enough. Usually dust Eastwood carb paint but not available.. I used duplicolor universal gold engine paint which is heat and fuel resistant. Looks decent.

I've seen a few attemptd at zinc plating castings before the acid bath to color them. Difficult if not near impossible to get a good uniform finish that way and most will have "blotchy" areas. Was never really fond of the "big gold nugget" look anyhow and have been asked more times than I can count to strip all that off of the castings and to color them correctly. What a PITA that deal is so I would recommend to NOT go in that direction right to start with.
I'm completely DONE with restoration work here and not doing any plating or coloring castings, etc. I've been sending all that work to Ray Klemm who used to work for me. I retired in April but will still be selling some parts and building a few carbs here and there for the "beer fund".......FWIW.....

I have a can of Eastwood carb "paint". I've had it forever. I sprayed a small spot and didn't care for it. If you want the can, just pay the shipping and it's yours. I sprayed a tiny bit just to make sure it still worked. AOK!

I checked with a bud, he’s got a few cans but does want to sell. It’s out there.
