carb jet removal
I have an AFB that someone completely screwed up. It was assembled wrong and besides other problems it needs the primary metering jets. There lies the problem. That someone broke the slots off the top of the jet where you place a screwdriver. I tried taking it out with an "easy out" with no luck. It just slips in the hole. It will be a good carb if I can remove the jet without destroying the carb. Any thoughts?
If I can get the jet out can I use Edelbrock's jets? Thanks |

Just soft metal so good machinist should be able to drill out. I'd go a little small and see if could just remove the ring and not screw up the threads.

If it's corrosion holding it in, then heat is going to be your friend.
Heat the casting with a propane torch, and quench it with water. That will usually break a corrosion bond. Sometimes it takes more than one attempt with heating and quenching to get the corrosion broken loose. Keep using the eazy out and you can also try tapping on the eazy out while attempting to unscrew it. Shocking the part also helps to break a corrosion bond. If it's cross threaded than drilling it out is probably going to be the only alternative. When you get it almost to the threads in the carb body you can collapse the rest of the soft brass jet with a pointed chisel into the center of the hole. It's tedious work, but gratifying to get the stuck part removed while saving the carb casting. Good luck on your efforts... |

Put the body on a mill table so you can get dead nuts on center, then ine up on each jet with HSS BS3 center drill, then drill with 1/4" bit, follow with 17/64" bit, then retap with a 5/16 NF 24 bottom tap.
You can also put heliocoils in there. |

Ok so much for removing the bad jet. Can I use the jets from Edelbrock's AFB style carb?

The tag on the carb is not readable but I assume it's a 3300.
|

In case it helps someone in the future I removed the carb's jet by tapping a #T-15 Torx tip into it and it screwed right out.
