How did you guys go about deciding how large of a structure to build? I'm trying to balance in my mind the desire for a cavernous space with the realities of finances, zoning, future taxes etc. I know car guys can never have enough room, but how did you determine the best compromise with which you could live and be happy?

Yep, Brooklyn is'nt exactly known for it's spacious garages or property, one thing i actually envy from anywhere outside of the city.
Welcome aboard, Andy. Where in L.I. are ya?

Tommy, it's Adam. I'm in Dix Hills.

Lloyd, where in Houston are you? I lived there for a short while (wife grew up there actually). And is the garage for sale? I'd love to move it to NY!!!

My home (and the garage, of course) is actually in Fort Bend County, out Highway 59 south past Sugar Land. We live in a master planned community by the name of Greatwood. 21 miles from my shop, which is located in the city of Bellaire, near where Highway 59 south and the West Loop 610 intersect.

Thanks!

The garage door openers are called "I-Drive", made by Wayne Dalton. Pretty slick installation, and don't have those long tracks cluttering things up.

Bellaire, ah yes, an older, slightly upscale and mostly Jewish pocket in Houston, as I recall. Still that way?

My wife grew up in Memorial and went to Stratford HS. Man, they have a nice football stadium!

If it's been very long since you've seen Bellaire, you wouldn't recognize it!

It WAS slightly upscale, now it's EXTREMELY upscale. A 1/3 acre lot runs $400K to $700K, depending upon the location!!! Not quite Memorial or River Oaks prices - yet!

Nice pictures guy's! Here's my place (26' x 34') from this past summer when superdutybob's T/A was "visiting" for the Dream Cruise. Wish I had more room but the wife won't let me have her Minivan spot!

Considering I used to have an add-on garage with a dirt floor\driveway and before that a parking lot, I love my 2 car garage!

Even better is when two cars fit in it and there is still room to do projects off to the sides!

Here is my shop. 2 holes under the house, 3 on the outside. When the doors are down nobody would even suspect that Hemi's, judges or W-30's live there.

hey, that might be MY solution to expanding! I've been trying to figure out the most cost effective way to add space. I have a 20x20 now, and want at least another bay. I'd prefer an attached garage to free standing for a variety of reasons and am considering just adding a 3rd bay forward. The only problem is that I'd have to modify a new $6,000 walk to my front door!

Can you post pics of the full exterior of the house?

Here's a few shots of my house and yard area. funny thing is that I always wanted a side entry garage. Now that I have it, I hate turning to get into it! (that's part of the reason we removed the post and and went to 1 door. wife kept hitting the post!).

I could probably add 10' to the front of the garage. Enough for another bay. That may even allow the walk to remain unchanged. Problem is, that's not as much space as i'd like to add, but it's the least expensive way to go I think. It allows us to put all 3 cars inside, or I can park in the center of the double bay and owrk on it while the wife can park on the single bay.

Adam,

Here you go. The parking was originally a 2 car drive under into the full basement. I added the addition on the side as you can see. I live in a "Covinent Community" so this was about all I could do. Getting the cars in the inner garage is kind of a pain. Everything has to come out first. Long term projects are stored there.
