I had been offered $300 for it while I owned it.
Partial trade for my 74 Grand Am.
He sold the 66 to a kid in Chicago who promptly got into an accident and fled the scene. Impounded and probably parted out and scrapped.

I know this is an old thread but...... and as a disclaimer it was far from a muscle car but a Pontiac none the less.
I bought an '82 base firebird w/ v-6 brand new, cost was just at $9200.

1969 GTO Judge R/A III -4-spd Matador Red/Red A/C car. Full NOS frame-off numbers matching nut & bolt restoration. (Owner needed to put a roof on his house). $17,500.00
Favorite: 1971 Trans Am (accelerated like a F18A Hornet off the front of an aircraft carrier).

While I owned my '71 T/A, I went in on a 1971 AMC Hornet S/C 360 built drag car with tunnel ram 401 4spd, Dana, slicks etc. that we re-assembled and detuned for the street.
Loved to challenge the Chevy SS and Magnum Mopar boys to a race with "Mom's Rambler".
Sunoco 360 was only 36.9 cents a gallon and we made more than enough money street racing with the Rambler to maintain and fuel the car itself.
The look on the Chevy and Dodge boys faces when they got beat was unbelievable.
Loved walking up to the guy in the group and say, "I heard your SS 396/375 horse got beat by some kid in a Rambler...."
Price for the Rambler...$3500.00.....look on the Chevy and Mopar boys faces.....priceless......

3500 for my first Lemans that had 66 GTO RUNNING GEAR. Perfect in every way. A few years later 8000 for my 64 GTO in great shape. Drove both everyday

$200 (talked down from 300) for my '66 GTO hardtop, from the original owner, with 87k-ish miles, original paint and a very seized engine, in 1987. Drove it to Wichita '88 GTO Nationals (powered by a 455).

Bought my 65 Sport Lemans at age 17 for $50. 326 HO (blown head gasket?), rally gauges, 3.55 posi, excellent body/interior, rusted trunk. 55,000 original miles. Had to have the rear window resealed, new rear tires, a battery, a used 389 out of a 66 GP. Total investment=$200. Had fun that summer. Regret letting it slip through my hands after the 389 blew it's head gasket.

1967 Firebird convertible, 400 engine 4 speed, no rust, gold on gold white top. paid $50.00 back in 1977.

In 1998, I paid $6500 for this 67 Firebird 400. All original engine and Muncie M20 and came with stacks of documentation from day 1, every maintenance invoice, receipt, etc, that the original owner did to the car, along with protect_o-plate, owner's manual, etc. Originally silverglaze with red interior but it had a cheap Maaco red paint job and needed right rocker replaced plus other minor stuff. Turns out I was the 5th owner so I am amazed that the docs followed the car through 4 previous owners. The guy I bought it from had the motor built up as specified in a 1987 article in Popular Hot Rodding titled How to Build a Pontiac 400 for Performance. It ran awesome and still does. Here is a pic of when I first bought it.

Like an idiot back in 1984 I passed on a 69 Trans am $3500.00 numbers matching car. At the time my everyday car was a 70 lemans sport, $250.00 it cost me.
