The 2 Clegg Mission Garage Birds were there. The '74 Stocker was #29.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop J.B. was #11 in the '73 stick Super Stocker. Robert Cruzen was also there, but apparently had problems. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop |

Robert Cruzen must have got his Cobalt problem fixed. He ran a 9.23, good enuff for the #3 position. So, looks like the 3 Pontiac powered cars are all running good now.

Ryan Warter & Don Elgin were at this race. There was also a 74 GTO, driven by a name I'm not familiar with. Don't know if maybe he's a beginner, or just had some mechanical problems. Didn't quite run his index, & in the 1st round, cut one of the worst lights I've ever seen. So, there is room for improvement.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop Don Elgin won the race ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop I noticed that Don didn't cut any great lights. But, I've always heard that you just win some races by luck. That's exactly the way we experienced it. Lost early in lots of races, even tho we ran a pretty good package. But, then, we also won lots of races without cutting a real good light all day. Hey you get one bye run, a couple of guys red light, one cuts a real bad light, & one has mechanical problems, & you are the winner of the race, without driving well, at all. That's racing. At this race, the Pontiac Stockers are driven by Brad Burton, Norman Warling, Dwaine Davis, & Gary Riley. Brad is driving the Burton '74 Formy. Looks like Norman has the 389 back in the '62.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop The Pontiac powered Super Stockers are driven by Robert Cruzen, Scott Burton & Carroll Warling. Looks like Carroll is driving his Lemans at this race. Robert ran more than a sec under, good enuff for #2 position. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop |

Scott Burton got RU, in SS, in the Burton Pontiac powered 3rd gen Bird.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop He also won Stock. But, since he no longer drives a Pontiac in Stock, I won't count that win. I always think of him as the guy who had the quickest Pontiac Stocker ever built. But, he had a pretty good weekend, anyhow. And, from all accounts he is a really nice guy. |

Pontiac Stockers are driven by Bob Michael, Robert Holmes, Julie Biermann, & Randi Lyn Shipp. Bob was #3 @ .956 under. That '77 base 400 is still very competitive, in a non-Bird body.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop In SS, #18 is listed as Travis Morgan, driving a '77 Bird. Don't know if this is Mike Morgan, or one of Mike's kin. Anybody know ? Stacy McCarty is #40. Irvin Johns & Todd Frantz are entered. Don't know if either of those cars is Pontiac powered. Anybody know ? https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Todd drove a 428 powered '05 Cobalt to the GT/FA class win at Indy, in 2019. I think the car belonged to Irvin Johns. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCStory.asp?ID=355810 Last edited by ponyakr; 07-03-2021 at 11:47 PM. |

Bob, Randi Lyn & Robert survived the 1st round of Stock.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Stacy McCarty survived SS round 1. Irvin Johns also won, with his '05 Cobalt. Don't know if it still has 428 Pontiac power, or not. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...&postcount=246 Last edited by ponyakr; 07-04-2021 at 09:16 AM. |

Lots of Pontiac Stockers on the Q-list. But, there are also lots of Stockers there. So 3 Pontiacs did not make the 128 car field. Don Turk might get in, if somebody has to drop out. Robert Holmes had the highest qualified Pontiac @ #9. A '73 Bird is listed with a driver name, Tony Sutfin, I haven't seen. Looks like Bob Michael had problems. ,
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop In SS, Don Kennedy & Travis Morgan made the field. Still don't know if Travis Morgan & Mike Morgan are the same person, or just kin folks. Anybody know ? https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop They're having class run-offs. Looks like Billy Nees got a holeshot Q/SA win, with his 301 powered '79 Lemans. Robert Holmes appears to have the quickest car in his J/SA class. But, sometimes the quickest car does not win the class. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 07-15-2021 at 11:10 PM. |
