Default Hood Insulation / Paint damage

Just wondering how necessary the hood mat/insulation is necessary to avoid heat damage to the hood paint? Is it even an issue?

If they are recommended ... which ones are you guys using ... hate to spend the $85 to ship the molded examples, but if I do use one I'd like it to look stock. I still have the original square clips.

The insulation is mainly to reduce noise. I've never had any issues with the paint on cars where it was missing.

Outside of late model vehicles, I've never had hood insulation on any of my cars and have never had a problem.

Agree. Even my 55 Chevy had a sprayed on coating, but that's off now and no paint issues. My Camaro never had anything. No paint issue.
