Default Working on a prank.

I have an annual party called the Twang and Bang. Everyone brings a dish, and after we eat the bows and guns come out. Hence the Twang and Bang. I made this guy with cardboard and fake fur material. It will be uphill and to the right of the targets just at the edge of the woods. It will be fun to see who spots it, and who shoots it. I will hang it with some black cord from the smaller tree branches so that it will move a little with the wind.

I wouldn't want to be with anybody with a gun that would shoot at an unknown animal. Totally irresponsible behavior with a weapon. Not meaning to rain on your parade, but not cool, IMO. No dis-respect meant.

I think the idea is that it is a target and will blend in better then the normal targets. Sounds like a nice time, actually.

Yes, it is one of the targets. One of the rules for the party is: Your first alcoholic beverage is the end of your shooting for the day.

Since the target will be "on the edge of the woods", what is the caliber of the weapons and what People/ habitats/animals
are down range from this "Target" vs positioning the target more in the center mass of the woods?

OK, I will address the safety concerns that have been expressed.
Rule number 1 for the day. Your first consumption of alcohol, is the end of your shooting for the day.
Target range layout. The closest property line in a bullet flight path behind the targets is 138 yards away. That property line is 200 feet higher than the target in elevation. The entire distance is through woodland. Also the crest of the hill is 60 feet higher than the property line. The closest dwelling in the flight path of a bullet is a minimum of 1 and 1/2 miles.
It is a shoot what you bring, so caliber could be anything from a 22 to a 300 Winchester magmum.

Geez….take it easy. I don’t know Radman personally, but I don’t think it’s going to be a bunch of high school kids with a bottle of tequila in one hand and a pistol in the other. Surprised some members here have the nerve to back their car out of the garage. “Ya never know if the throttle will stick open on the high HP machine “

Glad you have a thick bunch of trees down range.

So what are you going to do for targets or you are just going to let them fire the weapons for the recoil effect?

Tom V.

A . 22 LR bullet is capable of traveling 2,000 yards (1,800 m), which is more than 1 mile (1.6 km). Rimfire bullets are generally either plain lead with a wax coating (for standard-velocity loads) or plated with copper or gilding metal (for high-velocity or hyper-velocity loads).

Since you have this "get to gather with guns" apparently yearly, why don't you put some effort into a proper Backstop next year so that the rounds are more likely to be stopped (for sure) at that point. The trees at the end of the open field belong to you??

Targets: A little bit of everything. The old refrigerator and lawn roller will hold different rifle targets. There is a 12 inch steel target and a 10 inch steel bigfoot to the left of the refrigerator. Also to the left and old rusted front tractor tire, and some rubber bounce targets. 1 gallon milk jugs filled with water. Expired 16 oz pop cans, and the normal pistol scillowet and round targets placed at closer distances for the hand guns. Also one expired and stale jar of peanut butter. We will find the highest power rifle and do a slow motion video of it getting shot. Oh yes, one special target. I have a cell phone that the trade in value was a rooring $30.00. I didn't think that was worth the potential of my information getting stolen from the old phone. I am planning a firing squad execution of that phone. That will probably get videoed also.

Going to have to construct an indoor shooting range for next year.
Just think of the profit he can make off this annual get together.

Sounds so fun! Again! Bullcrap for a bit until the bbq is ready, sit down and enjoy some nice food, some salads, some corn on the cob... Then bust out the guns and bows and have some fun, have some friendly competition and some ball busting, settle back and bust out some whisky or beer (after shooting) rib your buddies some more. A nice affair for sure for red blooded American males. I would invite myself if you were closer!!

Sounds like you have all of the bases covered and are destroying a lot of crap you collected over the years.

Be Safe and Have Fun out there.

The big foot was a hit. Dave walked out to the targets to look at a mild steel target he had made. He jumped a little bit when he saw bigfoot. When he came back he said "I love it, I have to shoot it!" Videos were taken of the shooting. I will post some of them after I edit them. The hit total on Bigfoot is 5 head shots, 2 shoulder/chest, 2 gut shots.

The highlight of the day was the firing squad execution of an old cell phone. Big foot was just one layer of cardboard and the fur material. Almost no reaction to being hit, and it makes a boring video. The phone was entertaining. Video was to large to post directly. Here is the link to you tube. https://youtu.be/v6-RTZqCsaE
