Flywheel and clutch questions
I have a 76 400 that has come out of a car with an automatic. Currently it has a 166 tooth flex plate with matching starter. Register on crank is 2.49" I am using the original manual Muncie M13 3 speed from my 71 GT-37.
I need to find a flywheel and clutch that will work. I know I need a flywheel with a hole for the 2.49" register, but a couple questions: 1) To use the starter currently on the engine do I need to use a 166 tooth flywheel? (Maybe a flywheel for a 76 6.6 Lemans of Firebird?) 2) For the clutch do I shop for a clutch for a 71 Lemans/GTO? |

Flywheel for all late model Pontiacs have the same tooth count and use the same starter, although I will qualify the starter. on my 81 Turbo 301 was different.
Clutch- you need to get the flywheel first to see what size clutch it will take. Some aftermarket flywheels are drilled for 10.5 and 11".

I think the new aftermarket flywheels come with a ring so it can be used on both size registers.Tom

Make sure you dial in the bell housing with a dial indicator for center and parallel to engine block.

On the PRW the removable weight is for either any motor size that is factory balanced and not completely internal neutral balance. Look at a factory flexplate and you can see there is a hole missing for "external balance".
