Default Vibration

So after many years my '69 convertible is mostly done and I'm sorting out things I could of done better the first time. It has too much vibration at higher highway speeds is one thing. (over 70)
I'm wondering if my 10 year old Firestones have residual flat spotting from sitting 3-4 years without moving or whether the Rallye IIs are wobbly from suffering 40-50 years of potholes, curbs etc. When I first got on the road my wife was following and said one front wheel was noticeably out of true; I put on the spare and didn't notice any improvement. The car has 14x6 Rallye IIs with 225/70 R14 Firehawks all around.

The 10 year old Firestones are way overdue for being replaced, so I'd look for replacements ASAP. I'd have the tire shop closely check each rim carefully to check for any issues before mounting new tires.

When buying tires, go to a shop with a Road Force Balancer, which can help pinpoint a bent rim or out of round tire much better than the old school spin balancer could.

For certain all of what has been said above, plus look at your upper A-frame bushings for rubber loss!
Heck, might as well look at the bottom A-frame ones also.

+1 to this advice. Specifically seek out the Road Force Balancer and not a standard wheel balancer.
