i would pick the 69 RAIV Judge because I know the car and owned it with one of my best friends US marine Colonel Patrick Malay. Long time ago., look him up . Like our old wrestling coach said "it's a damn good thing he's on our side .

Crazy prices. $170k for a '79 Trans Am with 7 original miles, but then a Starlight Black '69 Judge only brought $62k. Also a 66 GTO, 4 barrel auto with lots of visible dents brought $52k.

Yes every year we need a synopsis as to what these Barrett Jackson numbers mean. Two years ago it was the 69 CR Judge thing. Still not sure what that was or why it happened.
Tata for now...

Looking at that 71 Aztec gold one is making me awful anxious to get mine out of storage and start enjoying it once again.

Im feeling the 69 CR Judge with vinyl top. A nice combo. The 71 Judge wins by default though. Whata beaut

I can't believe the 69 Judge (lot 1068) went for $90k. That car was a mess....people were practically laughing and pointing at it during the preview weekend. The left side of the car was good, the right side had all kinds of problems. The door jamb gap was horrible, the hood wasn't aligned, the rocker molding was barely attached and you could fit your fingers between the fender and Endura bumper. The rear quarter on that same side looked like it had a thick layer of bondo as well....the shape of the body lines just looked "fat" on that side. Whoever bought that car is going to need to have it redone correctly before they show it anywhere. It sorta looked like it was put together by the high school auto shop students.

Lot 1282 $117,000
Do not know the car, but that has to be one of if not the top selling price for a 69 RA3.

Phone bidders and newbies can bring sellers luck.
Mecham in Florida also had a bunch of nice Pontiacs this January. Two 69 TA convets! Restomods were bringing big money. |

Usual B-J bull crap. Pontiacs on the block-time for commercials.

Must have been. The black top was very nice...
I am amazed how much better these cars look when they go across the block compared to when they are on display in the tents. The lights in the main auction bldg must be designed to make these cars shine. Most every seller paid the extra money to have some sort of wonder shine polish wiped on their cars just before they get inside the building. I wonder whats in that stuff? |

They put funiture polish on them to make them shine like that.

The black RA IV convertible was the nicest car in the group as far as workmanship goes. It looked spectacular actually. I think the T/A was the next best one IMO.

The 71 Judge vert was probably a good buy, but was a nice driver restoration without OEM sheetmetal. I supplied the late great Steve with pix and PHS when it was for sale. For it to be 200k plus it would need a bit of work.
That 71 HO vert seemed like it might have had OEM sheetmetal, and never heard if it was a RA car from factory? Those cars the were part of Tom S collection were probably not his top cars either...

Just an observation from attending Mecum and watching BJ. Color combinations make a difference as well as quality of workmanship. I saw cars that were typically more valuable like a 69 Judge get outbid by a standard model GTO convertible. In this case the convertible workmanship was far better than the Judge. The combination of exterior color and interior color can make a car "pop" and when on stage has a more "wow" factor. Numbers matching seems to have less appeal to these auction crowds as long as it "looks close". As mentioned many times a lot of these auction buyers get "emotionally" caught up in the bidding and cars that have the right colors get more action.
I still see a lot of cars that if someone would give me a weekend I could make them better and more "correct". It amazes me how many cars in these collections have basic easy to fix mistakes but they never get addressed. Some just need some correct detailing and cleaning. Others need a little more attention in sourcing the correct replacement parts. MarkC |

The gold '67 and the black IV vert were done by a good friend of mine in Piedmont S.C., his shop definitely knows their way around Pontiacs.
