There is a Spam Museum in Austin Minnesota. We happened upon it on our way to the 2012 POCI Convention. It was quite interesting

And you can thank a Monty Python skit for the term "SPAM" when it come to junk email.

There were also stories back in the early 90's that people would forward a photo of a can of spam to other users. Back then, a 300 baud modem was used to dial into a BBS (Usually a long distance call) and it took FOREVER to download a digital photo at those speeds. The receiving party would have to wait ,and wait, and wait...., (racking up long distance charges) for the image to download and render. Once they found out that it wasn't what they thought (most likely porn) they would get pissed off at wasting their time.

"Hey ladys_man_0269, don't download that image of Farrah Faucet naked. It's just spam."

Hormel is based in Austin, MN - about 20 miles from me...

They even have a "Spam Museum" on Main Street.
