Default M20 overhaul

I need to have an M20 overhauled and am looking for someone good in Arizona I can trust with it. I'd even be willing to ship it out of state to someone. I tried this once before myself, and I somehow created a seeping mess.

Thank you for the lead, very much appreciated. Wondering if you have first hand experience with them?

Brian at S-K Speed in NY is one of the best, and most affordable. I personally used them for over 20 years.

If it's seeping at the front, it's probably a worn out case, usually at the countershaft pin from abuse/higher than rated torque handling capabilities.

If you need a new case, you most likely need a countershaft, slider hubs, 1st and 2nd gears. You may be better off buying a new box.

I don't think it's leaking out of the front, but that's always a possibility. It seems to seep out between the case and extension, control lever cover, etc. At some point, someone overtightened a couple of the control lever cover bolts and stripped the threads in the case. Another issue is that someone overtightened the oil fill plug, and completely rounded it when they tried to remove it. I've tried everything to break it free...suspect it will need to be drilled out and Other than the seeping oil and the inability to change the oil (and it's about that time), it functions well enough. It's for a numbers car, so I'd like to have this one repaired.

Whew. Well, numbers cases are available, but hold on to your shorts when you ask how much. Having one 'restored' is not much cheaper. Cases are the number one wear-out items that send them to a heap.

It's real common for cases to leak at the countershaft hole, there is a way to have that bushed. Case threaded 'holes' can be repaired (multiple ways), surfaces can be machined true, and front bearing retainer/midplates/tailshaft housings are not serialized. No internals are serialized, obviously, but there are a couple diff input shafts that can be identified, though it requires the trans to be out of the car.

If you're not talking 'concourse' resto, you can save the original, and 'use' another trans to drive.

Understand that even in stock form power levels, those transmissions could and would fail.

Maybe this is the push I need to install a 5-speed...
