For a drag week type of deal where you'll do 2000 miles in a week, it wouldn't scare me a bit.

The failures that we've had, and others I've seen, with the aggressive spring pressures and lobe profiles, happen over a long period of time (a few years at least) and several thousand miles.

Dad's setup, if it were a fresh setup, would have done drag week no problem with no more than maybe checking the lash at some point for good measure. A lot of those guys are way more aggressive on setups than what I mentioned and make it through drag week. Some will go to extremes and swap parts just for the drive, and swap back at the track. Some have also eaten some lifters during that week of thrashing, and I'll bet they are pretty aggressive cam setups too.

Ah, well if it’s just for competing in drag week then that’s a Horse of a different color!

The move I just quoted from will be one of the next ones the cancel culture try’s to do away with because of its portrayal of Wiches!

The set-up I'm running is very easy on parts. I'm running the Comp Endure-X lifters on their XE Street Roller lobes 266/272 and about .650 net lift with HS 1.65's. I run the K-motion K-800 springs and change them every couple years. Zero issues with 5 Drag Weeks on these parts along with weekly bracket racing at my local 1/8 mile. Relatively inexpensive parts that seem to work in my combo.

My set-up is pretty mild compared to many Drag Weekers including Richard Guido (guidos on here) and he drives his car to the events racking up 5000 miles in a couple weeks time. It all kinda boils down to your budget and how much maintenance you're willing to do between the drives.

I'd guess the majority of faster Dragweek cars are running high lifts. The thing about dragweek it tests parts. You break you upgrade...FWIW with my higher lift hyd roller I've had zero failures in 11 years with 2 different cams and valve spring packages.
Dragweek is on my bucket list.

This is true without a doubt! I know with the fast N/A cars .900" lift is not an unheard of number. One particular car comes to mind turning a SBC to 9000+ RPM and running into the 8's at 3200 lbs! Unfortunately, that level of performance is not in my budget...

My old Falcon wagon had an UltraDyne/Bullet solid roller. 0.050" duration of 251/259 I believe (I'll have to dig out my old notes) and about .640 lift with Probe shaft mount 1.7's. I forget the spring pressures, but they were as-delivered from AFR with NexTek springs & Ti retainers.

In 2011 I checked the lash settings, and they had not changed since 2010. I then drove 4,400 miles over the next 12 days on the Power Tour. I had all my tools to check/set lash, but never had a need. Re-checked when I got home, and nothing had changed.

firechickenman what are you using for a torque converter driving your car? It performs very well all your dragweeks times are really good. The Midwest drags is giving away a complete high dollar car but to get in the draw for it you have to turn in all 10.50 or faster passes all runs 2 at each track. When we talked to them they said the rule was to stop from having everyday drivers entering.

Thanks! It's a custom 10" PTC that drives really well on the street but flashes to 5000 launching off the footbrake. PTC really hit the nail on the head getting this converter to do exactly what I wanted it to do.

[QUOTE=firechickenman;6235290]The set-up I'm running is very easy on parts. I'm running the Comp Endure-X lifters on their XE Street Roller lobes 266/272 and about .650 net lift with HS 1.65's.

For 468 ci I was thinking my 254/262
640 lift lobes was a little aggressive for street driving.
Way to go firechicken👍

My 1st XE Street Roller was the 254/260 lobes on a 112 LSA. It was plenty tame in my opinion and I wanted to go faster. A couple good Pontiac friends suggested I needed more cam so I tried the 266/272 on a 110LSA. It picked up right at 2 tenths in the 1/4
