Where do you put your #1 wire on your distributor?
I know that any location will do to put the #1 spark plug wire, while the engine is TDC #1 compression stroke. But I just think that mine is not where I want it. The engine runs great, but the number one plug wire is in the 7:00 position, if 12:00 is the firewall and 6:00 is towards the front of the engine. I thought that it would be closer to the drivers side. We’re switching over to an HEI soon so I can put it in the factory location at that time.

1:00, or the terminal next to 12:00 is the same as mine.

LOL I love how it has a notation that the 307 "Pontiac" engine rotates clockwise. In other words it's the Chevrolet 307 that Pontiac used in 71 X-bodies.

Not to mention the 350 and 305 corporate engines that they left out.

Just installed a 350 Pontiac with the distributor installed from the previous owner. I double checked TDC and number one was directly across in the normal 6 spot..guess they must have stabbed it in but didn't confirm TDC..Or they didn't care..I get too anal and need it in the factory spot.

They probably had it 180 off, and installed it on exhaust stroke instead of compression. When you try to just re arrange the wires to compensate, nothing fits like it should, then the next guy has to figure out WTF the wires are all mixed up.
Agree it's better to set it up like the factory did. |

I won't mess with this car it's ok. On my higher horsepower car I'm much more fussy. What I like is when it's on the proper post you can keep the number 5 wire and the number 7 wire isolated from each other a little easier.
