FloorPans
So I have started getting a little dirty now and lifting the old bitumen sheets on the floor pans inside the car.
Was quite pleased. Small amount of pitting under the pedal area but nothing of concern. Will start on passenger side later this week. Whilst inside I noticed an area around the backseat on drivers side that has had some extensive beating from underneath the car. My thoughts are it was done for muffler clearance. The car suffered some beating to the inner guards by Pontiac Engineers for tyre clearance. Is this something they may have done also. If not I will rectify the area and flatten it out prior to painting. Any thoughts on this one. |

Looking good, Michael.
Just to point out, it wasn't the Pontiac engineers that hammered the rear wheel wells, it was the Hot Rod magazine authors that did the dirty work. |

Thanks for clearing it up Rocky.
Progress is slow mostly due to the time spent removing parts and taking photos and tagging everything so I know where it all belongs come the time for reassembly. |

Progress
Carb arrived from Cliff and very happy with his work. Here are some pics. Progress was slow lately as I have still been gathering parts. Sourced a Heater Box and Blower Motor with cover and some other bits and pieces that I need just chipping away slowly.

Thanks BVZ. What are thoughts about a 74 Y8 block. Would love a 73 block but am not sure one will ever show up but a 74 block might be closest i can get. Happy to throw this to the shark tank.

Maybe try to find a K112 cast date Y8?
According to this chart for early 73 engines it seems that Y8/W8 were the engine codes. (at bottom of sheet in the footnotes) It doesn't mention the normal SD codes for 73. I think initially they were going to use Y8/W8 codes but the EGR fiasco required them to change the manifest codes to show that the engines were updated. The 'new' SD codes were ZJ/XD as most know now. Since yours was not 'officially' a 'X' VIN car maybe call it an early release SD engine?

Really don't know what i'd do on the block situation .
Know what i would "want" to do ... but ... money is so expensive Would guess it had an " XD " block/engine without a VIN |

Yeah it makes it hard Baron. I would like find a pre prodution block but I have not seen one in over 12 months and even if one comes up for sale is it useable. I have learnt about unobtanium from this forum lol. SD parts are up there. Seems to be a few 74 blocks about. I have some standard 455 blocks which I will most likely use unless and maybe one day I will get lucky LOL.

No it didn't. Only the Coolant decal part no. 337450. And the Engine Oil Decal on the left hand guard part no. 734791.

If you still need the A pillars, I'm cutting up the 79 T/A within the next month or so. I'll put it aside for you.

Update
It has been a little while but I am always progressing slowly.
My wife had a baby not long after we bought the car. He was born Dec 10th 2012 and we named him Rocco. Funny that he like the car is a 2nd week December build just 40 years apart. Build Date 12B LOL. We have a second on the way this July. I hope their is no fighting over the car over the years. I have slowly been disassembling and trying to catalogue all the parts. Nuts and Bolts Included and theirs a lot of them. Guards are off. I am close to seperating the Sub frame and Making up a dolly to move the car around on. The Rear Quarters are in Nice shape with some small pitting in the lower quarters. I have cleaned them up for now and primed for the time being until I get the car Sand Blasted or Chemically stripped. I haven't really decided on what process is best but I know the sand finds its way in every little place it possibly can and will be a nightmare to remove. Their is some rust in the front windscreen/roof area which was under the moulding and this will need attention but other than that the car is sound. The heater area on the cowl needs some small areas repaired from the RHD Conversion but that is the worst of it really. I have also sourced an LS2 intake and it is on its way. It will arrive by the end of the month and will compliment the SD Heads and SD Carb. My Top end is complete of the Major components. Most likely use the Reproduction aluminium exhaust manifolds as the cast ones are usually cracked from what I have learnt. When the intake arrives I will post some photos. Michael |

Coming along fine, mate. Don't lose that original cowl seal...the repros are a bit different to the original.

Thanks for the advise Leigh. It looks like it can be saved so I will try and remove it delicately.

LS2 Intake
Finally got my hands on an LS2 Intake. Really happy to finally have one.
Its one very Heavy Intake and will go nicely with the SD Heads and Carb that I have for the car. Its taken a long time to find one so I am more than happy to stop looking LOL. |
