No wonder the naked pics of Rosanne Barr on a Bandit TA never post when I upload them.
She autographed them , just wanted to share.

Had some time with The Bird today. I thought I'd post up some more pics to let u guys analyze. Is there a stamping on this alternator to verify if it's original? Same questions for the carb & A/C compressor. Sticker on the A/C compressor looks newer, so IDK about it.Click image for larger version

The alternator looks correct.
The numbers should be on top straight out from the 2 wire connector on top.
On the front half.

Alt. #'s

The carb will have stamped numbers on the throttle side of the rear part of the carb. Up & down.

Carb #'s

This one is not correct for your car - but shows where the stamping is.
Yours should be 7040264

Alternator codes
Might need to smear some black grease/grime over it to highlight the stamping impressions.

Default alternator

this is my restored 1100903 if that help you. I got cores too. It's dated in Nov of 69 I think. My car assembled in 1st week of March. It will work.

M would be December.
They skip "I" on stamped dates of peripherals .

Thanks Guys!! The alternator checks out. It's number is
1100 903 55A
Date code is 9M11

The carb is
4988S
Then a C 4 0

I didnt have as good of luck with the carb numbers though. It would only let me search the first 250 of 2062, then it would kick me out. And if I entered the number on the specific search, it would say no results found

I have a 4987S in database, shows as a 1970 replacement Qjet.
I'd say yours is the same with a newer number? (4988S)

Jon probably would know about it. (if he sees this)

Carter replacement carb.
Will have Carter cast onto the side instead of Rochester.

As Johnta1 mentioned , CarbKing can probably decipher that application. (PY member)

Was that "common practice" to replace the quadrajets back then? I know my dad had a 69 Impala with a quadrajet on it & he stil curses it to this day, lol It has a C 4 Date code on it. Maybe a C 1. It was hard to read the number.

It could happen to any car.
But it didn't happen to all of them , just some of them.
Yours is a stock style replacement , it could be worse.
But it isn't factory.

Carter did make some Qjets for PMD assembly line use.
But they had the full application number 7040264 and plant code ,
just a different dating format than the Rochester units.

A lot of bad gas served from stations during the mid-70's lead to a lot of carburetors being replaced. Date code C4 with a circled "C" sounds very plausible.

It did come from the factory with a Quadrajet, correct? I think at some point, I would like to put a factory correct carb back on it

Carter manufactured some Quadrajets for Rochester;
Most factory installed Quadrajets were made by Rochester, but some were outsourced to Carter for use on the assembly lines.
As mentioned earlier, they look exactly the same, but have a different stamped application number.

I believe the most common 1970 “Carter” Quadrajet was the 400/auto (7040264).

For all intents that IS a correct carb for your car, it’s just a service replacement that Carter sold through the aftermarket, and not a GM issued unit.

To most, the difference is un-noticeable.

Those carter service replacement carbs can fetch good money - I have some auction listing information saved…
If it functions fine, I’d suggest you leave it in service for now, and move on to other things which might need addressing first.
