The master is different, sort of. If the bore is the same you can convert the firebird master to four wheel disc. Where the rear brake line goes in to the master there is the flare seat. If you pull the flare seat out there is a check valve in there to keep the rear brake shoes from fully retracting when you let off the brake to maintain good brake pedal. Use screw like a drywall screw and thread it into the hole of the flare and pull out the flare, remove the check valve and reinsert the flare and now you have a four wheel disc master. Again though make sure the bore size is the same before you go through the trouble.

Practiced spraying out the epoxy today on the fenders and trunk lid. I'm using a Harbor Freight gun, and an old Craftsman compressor. After a little trail and error, it sprayed out pretty good.

Got the nose cone painted, along with the hood and shaker. The hood was still wet when the picture was taken. So far the HF gun has been working pretty good!

Got the body sprayed tonight! The only things left are the small items such as the spoilers and mirrors.

The epoxy is laying down nicely, and should provide a great base to work off of.

Impressive.

I've been missing that 455. I came up with a plan and have my old grandville 455 block at the machine shop to get bored. I plan to swap it in my TA this fall.

Yes, I built a stronger 4spd already just waiting for the swap.

Threw the front sheet metal on to get an idea of what it looks like. Next step will be skimming some areas with quality filler to get it straight.

Hey nice job on the paint looks good. What kind of gun are you using, what is the psi on gun and psi on your compressor? I have a 79 truck I want to try and shoot myself and still cant decide if I should or not. Thanks

Sorry, I didn't see this post.

I'm using a Harbor Freight HVLP gun with the regulator they give you. I have the gun set at 40psi. I'm using an old Craftsman 25 gallon compressor, and it has been working great so far.

Funny you should mention spraying a truck. I actually just sprayed my 73 K10 with the same gun and compressor.

I've been busy lately, but I've been chipping away at it. I got the filler work started, and got the smaller pieces such as the spoilers and mirrors painted up. In the pics the filler isn't blocked out.

So no problem with the 25 gallon compressor keeping up with gun when you are painting car? Do you have to stop to let compressor catch up? Nice work on Trans Am though looks great so far. A truck should be easy to paint compared to a TA.

I painted the T/A in pieces, so the compressor had no issue what so ever. On the truck I painted it whole, and I stopped and let the compressor catch up after completing the front half of the truck. I painted the from the cab forward, and once that was done I let the tank fill up before I tackled the bed. It worked fine though!

The truck was just an afternoon project. I decided it would look better in black epoxy instead of rattle can gray. The T/A is definitely a more detailed oriented job.

Got the 455 pulled out of the Firebird to prepare it for new gaskets and a fresh coat of paint. It came out pretty easy. Whats the Lokar thing on the transmission? I usually don't run TH400's, so I don't know what it is. I haven't looked it up, but I should probably know what it is lol. Can anyone make out what the trans came out of?

The Trans Am is in the blocking stage, so there's nothing glamorous to take pictures of...yet.

th400's have an electric kickdown, so that Lokar's box may be a switch for the kickdown, since it looks to have wires running in and out of it. Does that cable on it run to the carb or the gas pedal? If so, that's another clue that it's for the kickdown.

Lokar is for the kick down, it's connected to the carb. The Trans is originally from a 77 Cadillac with 425, I believe. ( I looked up the numbers a while ago)

The 455 yh i believe is from a 70 bonneville
