I'm scratching my head trying to figure this out. In the process of restoring my 67 GTO and moving it around to different storage, I misplaced the bell housing. I bought a used bell housing that I thought matched the photo in "The GTO restoration Guide" only to find that it should have an inspection hole at the bottom and it does not. Otherwise it matches. The part number on this bell housing is 9783111. The number I found for a 65-70 muncie is 9785581. Can anyone tell me what the 9783111 bell housing is off of? Year? Application? I think I just learned the value of having the proper part #

My books show 9785581 was installed on all Pontiacs from 1965 to 1979.

Thanks for the reply Robert. Any idea about what part # 9783111 would be for? Maybe a different GM division?

Are you sure the 3111 is a Pontiac? If it is it's prior to 1965. Might be an Olds.

thanks Bob, Fortunately I was able to swap the OHC 6 bell housing back to the salvage yard and was able to dig up the correct one, for an even trade.
