Default '62 Tripower Vacuum Linkage Video

Here's a '62 setup I'm building. Thought you'd like to see a video of how it works. Action is slow because of my weenie vacuum pump.

Dick,

Very nice short video.
Don’t worry about the weenie as long as it works!

Those crazy looking Vacuum units are way cool to view and ...... the WHOAAAAAAAA they have is scary. Instant response!

Just like Kenth said, I too love my rare 66 YR unit.

Chris.

My first experience with vacuum linkage was with my '57 Oldsmobile J2. I removed the 4 bbl. and installed a J2 setup someone had for sale.

I first stomped on it on a main street in Milwaukee with at least 1/2 block space to the car in front of me. Carbs opened, I smiled at the sound, backed off, and the car kept accelerating for what seemed a long time. I learned from that one experience never to tromp on the accelerator unless there was A LOT of room in front of me. I was 19 years old at that time---1961.

That was the last 3 carb setup I owned with vacuum linkage. The many Pontiac Tripower cars I've owned were all mechanical linkage--from the infamous Ansen ball bearing linkage to the factory rod & tube and slotted rod style setups. .

Default Vacuum carbs

Ah yes 1961 and vacuum carbs. Scared the heck out of me too. Went to mechanical right after.

I was very happy when my GTO was delivered and it already had the Mechanical Linkage set-up installed on it. I Believe it was the prototype vehicle installation for the 64 Service linkage. GM Brass Hat drove the car for 6 months before I got it. Suspect that he pulled some strings with Rochester Products to get the 64 Mechanical Linkage installed on his vehicle. I would assume that he just snapped off the Tube and Rod linkage when the wife was scheduled to drive the car. 30 second job to reinstall it.

I drove ONE Vacuum Linkage Car, once. A friend took out 5 parking meters and totalled his new 65 GTO with Vacuum Linkage. Cars were stopped in front of him and the engine was still at WOT. He chose the Parking Meter route vs hit the cars. There is a post somewhere on PY about that deal.
