You can modify the rochesters easily enough to flow more air. 1000cfm is about the limit before you break through the walls. Then need to epoxy. The iron manifolds are heavy suckers though. Aluminum would be real nice. As well as the capacity to open up the intake port if so desired. I'd take one regardless.

I would be interested in one, but definitley if there was a way to get the intake to work better from a performance standpoint. I can see where the Holley's could work, but I would rather use the Rochester carbs.

I will take an aluminum one just for my back! I am sure that it can be made to flow a little better than a stock one if cast correctly. I will just paint it blue and the average person will not know the difference. There are probably a lot of originals around but I had one crack and I have talked to other guys with the same problem. Mine cracked center carb down to the exhaust crossover.

Some also crack at the water cross-over closest
to where the intake runners start. Looked all over
the heat cross-over and never saw a crack on mine for years then a buddy says "Hey! Your intake has
a crack in it" It sure did!

My Question is:

WHAT IS THE STATUS ON THIS INTAKE AS OF DECEMBER
25, 2002 AND WHEN WILL THE FIRST PARTS BE AT PY AND AVAILABLE?

Tom V.

ps It seems like we have a fair abount of interest
in doing the part.

I have the same question as Tom V, when will the intake be available? I have not received any info on this yet. Thanks!

I would like one to flow about 280 to 290 cfm if possible. How much and how soon could I get it????
would be willing to invest a little in it to make it happen.

I'm sure my dad would take 2. His tow has one and his race has one and I'm know he would love for them to be aluminum.

I'd be interested in one. Would like to see RAIV ports though. Would be great intake for Nostalgia Super Stock.

He's working on the intake. I don't believe he was planning any modifications to the stock flow of the original. I will try and see if it is not too late to modify. However, I would need someone that is qualified to give him the proper info needed to increase the flow.

I think it would be great if tom or someone would be able to get in on the design and clean up the flow a little, but if there is only one change to the original design, just put more material along the roof of the port up where it meets the head so we could home modify it to the larger RA/SD intake port for those heads. Great idea to do this project. Hope it works out. Keep my name on the list for one. Keep us posted.

Agree totally with raising the roof and adding even more material for porting. Need to have the
entries into the runners cast with nice a nice
radius on the upper roof for smooth turn into the runners like Keith Wilson does on the 4 barrel stuff. Would also be better to have more plenum volume but would require increased height of the
plenum to do it right.

Chrysler did it right if you look at their 6 pack
manifold, (the aluminum ones from Edelbrock) but
we are are locked into a manifold that resembles a
stock looking piece so changes (improvements will
be mostly internal).

If I were doing it, (I am not), I would get together with other members on PY and pay for Bryzinski to do his magic on a cast iron manifold
and then copy the changes in aluminum. He is a
master with cast iron "stock looking" parts.

Tom V.

Would it be possible to get Edelbrock or someone to make a new aluminum intake if we as a group approached them? We'd need to show Edelbrock there is a market for such a item. I'd love to have one!!

Edelbrock at one time made an aluminum Pontiac tri-power intake manifold. I had one in the late seventies, early eighties. It may have been off pre 65 heads though..... don't remember. If they've done it once they could do it again.

I'm in for one (Steve's alum '66 tripower intake).
Would be sweet to have raised runners...(?)

Is PY still offering repro '66 tripower center carbs? (I can not get in online catalogue...just e-mailed.)

My idea of the perfect Tri-power manifold would be just like the Weiand 440 six pack tunnel cross
ram piece. Great flow, great plenum, easy to cast,
(just really tall though!)

How do we get ahold of Steve to offer suggestions and a kick in the shorts to get this done? LOL!

Good one Tom, my idea of the perfect Tri-Power intake would be designed like the Edelbrock Performer RPM. I have Rochester 2bbl carbs off 1970 Chev 400" engines with the BIG 1-3/8" venturi. I can set these carbs up to work on this Dream manifold that i want and it would put out well over 600 HP. Like i said in my other posts i have been ragging on Edelbrock to make one, and even offered to loan Edelbrock one of my 66 Tri-Power intakes to get it all going but no luck yet. I also talked to Larry Wenzler about having one made and he is too busy with other projects right now and didn't even want to talk about another intake.

Got three customers waiting! Can we make a formal
list of who want one (or two or three)? Tom V.

I made a list: (18 for sure so far, 12 maybe)

YES:

(1) Mike Nixon

(2) Tom Vaught

(3) Stealthgoat

(4) Carbking

(5) Robert Williams

(6) B-Man

(7) Warrior GTO

(8) J.C. you

(9) Tom S.

(10) KGTO

(11) 428goat

(12) Thunderroad GTO

(13) Slowbird

(14) Mike Davis

(15) Ol'Pinion head

There were a couple of people I was unsure of based on the post. Sounds like even if it was just a nice cleaned up piece with Ram Air 4 type
runner material and equivalent flow (240 cfm
stock at 25") people are ready to buy them. Tom V.
