Default '63 Tripower Intake--What Does the X mean?

I have several '63 Tripower intakes. They are casting number 9770275. One cast January 18, 1962 has only the casting number on the water crossover. Another, cast December 10, 1962, has an X cast near the 9770275.

I can't see any difference between the two except for the X. Does anyone know what this means?

One of them is going to be on a beautiful '63 Black Bonneville in California---as soon as I get a set of carbs restored, assembled and shipped! Pictures to follow when it's ready to ship.

Sometimes it helps to identify different vendors as far as who cast up a given intake manifold. I have a 64 Tri-Power Intake Some say the GTOs all got the intake with the 2 "Cast "Bars" on the water cross-over. Some 64 Tri-power Intakes do not have the "Bars" on the cross-over. I asked one time and they said it had to do with vendor who supplied the part.

The bars were added to the '64 intake manifold about February, 1964. All the ones I have dated after Feb. have the bars. The ones cast before Feb. do not.

Good one!! I'll Try that this afternoon.

Date code of the Non-X one is A 18 3. I painted it last night in preparation for assembly to ship to CA for a nice '63 Bonneville convertible.

I would not recommend this unless you have backed up your hard drive first.
