Quadrajet and th350 kickdown setup help
Hi all,
Just finished swapping in a fresh 400 and need some ideas on what to buy to clean up my throttle cable and th350 kickdown setup. My current setup is cobbled together and probably wont last long. Current setup: 1971 Lemans Convertible with 1979 Q-Jet on 1968 4bbl intake using stock 2bbl throttle cable extended with a bike chain link attached to a screw in the throttle linkage. Th350 kickdown is still the pedal operated one, but I had to jb weld a nut on the end under the pedal because I used an aftermarket Chevelle style cable as a replacement. Basically, I need to re-engineer the whole thing. I'm currently leaning towards using 1968 or 1969 (FN385R or FN385S on Ames) Firebird throttle bracket with the TH350 bracket (FN385PA/N147PA) along with a new throttle arm (FN371K/N150A) and kickdown cable (R157MJ) and throttle cable (N150AA). I still have the stock 1971 throttle cable bracket, which I'm using, so I'm not sure if I even need the Firebird throttle bracket. I think the Firebird bracket serves as a th350 kickdown and throttle cable bracket. Open to pics and ideas. Thanks |

Found this thread, https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=526611 , which goes into kickdown cable lengths.

Aftermarket billet Bling-Bling is one way to do it, expensive, may create other issues.
Typically, I only use factory parts here. Without going to a much taller intake, like a Performer RPM, with a Pontiac Q-jet there's little reason to use the aftermarket pieces Am sure have mentioned the solution to this issue before in the '70-72 LeMans-GTO Tech section. The '72 LeMans with Turbo 350's use a gas pedal ROD connection for the T350 kick down cable. Then you simply use a '68-71 Pontiac A-body 4 bbl throttle cable (either nice used or repro). On the later Pontiac Q-jet, you will have to grind/ cut the tiny knob style throttle cable attachment off the Q-jet throttle arm & replace it with a pin/small cotter key style attachment. With late 60's-early 70's 4 bbl intake, you'll also need a 4bbl throttle cable bracket, either a '67, 68-69, or 70-71 version. Over 25 years ago went through a 71 4bbl Qjet & '71 intake swap on low mile '71 350 2bbl T-37 hardtop. On that '71, I don't even remember swapping to the '72 T350 gas pedal rod. My good friend, Bob, may have done that,. I do know that '71 350 Olds Cutlasses used the same gas pedal ROD type T-350 detent cable attachment, as sold one of my '72 gas pedal RODs recentlt to a local customer with a 71 Olds Cutlass convert. Might go over to Franks Pontiac website, punch up the 68-72 Pontiac A-body section, then scroll down to the Gas pedal/ROD assembly's. I may have another '72 style Rod, as well. Know have the other pieces.
