Default 67 gto gauges

I'm in the process of restoring a 67 gto 400, 4 speed. Started March 1st.

Right now I'm working on the dash.
I have the dash out, in bench testing the water temp and oil pressure gauges, I think they are both bad. In looking for replacements, ( I couldn't find any), I called Precision Pontiac, man told me they all go bad, that he could repair them for around $500. I told him I could buy a NEW cluster for that! He said that the aftermarket electronics parts were bad, wouldn't last and i would be tearing the dash out of the car not long after I installed them. So, was he right? Has anyone used Precision Pontiac? Are aftermarket gauges any good? I'm thinking about going with digital gauges? They any better?
