Default 68 convertible top color options

Hi, I have a 68 convertible gto. On the body tag for paint and top it says G8. Does that mean gold car with a gold top? There is a black top on the car now that is pretty beat up and need to change it. I never saw a gold top before. Thanks

There's a 1968 color and interior brochure here: http://oldcarbrochures.org/United%20...iac/index.html It shows 8 = gold top.

I wonder if the 8 is for the convertible boot, the piece that holds top to truck lid. I have that and it is ivy a good color. I looked at a bunch of places and can only find a white or black main convertible top.

The boot (tonneau cover) color always matched the interior seat color, not the convertible top.

On 1960s and early 70s GM cars post #5 I agree with 100%! The boot color should match the interior (seat) color regardless of the top color.

When they are selling new convertibles GM would often give the customer 3 or 4 choices of folding top color depending on the car's paint color.

After 8 or 10 years or more the aftermarket would always offer you a white and/or a black top as a replacement item but trying to get a new top in one of the other colors is often not possible after 50+ years.

G8 is gold with a gold top. Click on the year at the top of the page and follow the links to decode colors, interior, etc.

That gold top was great looking on certain colors, in 69 they dropped the Gold and Teal tops and instead used Dark Blue and Dark Green (neither were actually dark).
