Tire sticker
This is my original 1970 formula 400 sticker. Can anyone fix plastic. Hinged? And what is difference between 70 and rest?

I'm giving this a little bump;
I came across a sheet of paper I tucked away some time ago, and it had two glove box door stickers on it, as well as the little round blue Canadian import sticker, and the end of the blue door tag from a car with a build date of 01 72; This tire decal is KC the sticker is part number 488149, is full in tact, and has no revision number. It has only one tire size on it L78-15 I just noticed that this has six and eight passenger seating - so odds are it is NOT a Firebird decal... Now, I am making a guess that these are all from the same car, but even then the glove box door could have been swapped off of another car prior to me getting these stickers. Is the KC decal a 1972 decal? If so, is it a model specific one?

The long decal is Not 1970. This is a fact. Also the molding of the door changed in 71.

Ok, this thread sent me down a rabbit hole all day.
My car is '70 and is very close to all original yet restored over 20 years ago, much longer than I have owned it. There are things I know are not original to the car, but based on the interior, and the '70 Bright Blue, I highly suspect the glove box door is original to the car but can't say for sure. My car is a Norwalk car with an 06 C assembly date, third week of June. I tried to dig up when the last of the '70s were built and did find any definitive dates, so I spent a bunch of time on the registry reviewing build dates there and only found a very few built that late and only a couple that were like 07 A, unless there were RA IV's (which I understand were all at the very end of '70 production) My glove box door does not match what the '70's in this thread look like (with the smaller square insert for the decal), it has the longer recessed space like the images of the '71. Could it be my car being so late got the glovebox door used in '71 (maybe already out of '70s)? Or is there no way that could have happened and I have a later door that someone matched perfectly to the the dash and the rest of the interior? |

LOL
A man of like mind! I know the rabbit-trail all to well. My suspicion will be prefaced by a question; Is your glive box door a very good match to the dashboard's vinyl? I ask that because I have seen varying degrees of colour variation regaurdless of year or colour (except black); The one's which we see that are dead-ringer matches in colour, are often ones which have been painted to match. Companies like 'Just Dashes' can give you a dead ringer colour match for your console AND glove box door. Quote:
My opinion is, if your car is complete, who cares if the minute details are off - just enjoy it as-is. If on the other hand, you are putting together a car, or you plan to replace/upgrade parts, my opinion is that it doesn't hurt to know what is 100% correct - just incase you can find it.

Gotta keep in mind they were putting out a Firebird every 3 minutes and F body's every 45 SECONDS ! This was about making money, not hand building our passion. Having owned a couple 70 birds I parted out, and a friend with a nice one I helped restore, learning the 1970 is a long Road, has its quirks. Not all is etched in stone!

No skinny donut space-savers until about 1980. Fullsize spares or the deflating space-saver.

Adding to an old thread, here's the KN tire inflation sticker from my 04C Norwood 1970 Formula. The original wheel/tire combination on the car is CL steel wheels, hubcaps, trim rings, with F70-14 RL FG tires (Red Line).

Red line tires on a ‘70?
I don’t think I have ever heard of that being a thing(!?); I thought it was black wall (standard) or white letter (optional), and that was it? Is it possible that RL stood for “Raised Letter” (white) tires?

I'm unclear what "RL FG" represents. My first thought was "Raised Letter". But I searched these forums and found this thread about availability of Red Line tires for 1969 Firebirds.

Looks like red line, fiberglass belted bias ply tires. May have to search this by price

I have a salesman order book, a reprint of the Firebird section from the 1970 dealer book (this was a large binder with all model info, colour charts ect, not the condensed pocket book a salesman would carry or have in his desk), and others.
I am pretty sure red line tires were not a thing. I will have to dig further for the "TRL", because I do recall seeing it mentioned, but for now the reprint of the dealer book shows that for the Formula, sales code 'ML' (UPC code 'PL4') was $28.44 - this was the white letter tire.

My invoice image is rather poor quality. I might be reading the code wrong. It might be TNL rather than TRL.
F70X14 RL FG is slightly clearer than the 3 character code.

I have a PHS from another 70 Formula in my files, it is a 15" rally wheel car;
The line item for the 15" wheel/tire combo has a code TNL. EDIT: I just looked at other PHS sheets I have saved; I found several 70 Formula's which had the optional RWL tires, that option code line reads as follows; F70x14 WL FG - 28.44 - TML

TML must be right. You must be right. Add mine to that list.
I wasn't able to read the printed copy accurately. That blurry M looks like an N to my weak eyes. Sorry for the confusion - thanks for sharing your knowledge.

I got your PM. Thanks. Your car is fifth car I know of that was sold by the family dealership. 1970 Grand Prix, 1968 Firebird, 1969 GTO, 1973 Grand Am and your car. This is something I had made for the wall in my Garage. The dealership was started in 1954 and sold June 2nd, 1986. The top of the poster is a photo blown up from the plate put on the front of all the demo's at the dealership. The address changes from 15 to 55 in the mid-70's. The building is long gone and was a Packard dealership before the family bought the property. Thanks again. Jim Last edited by napster; 02-08-2023 at 02:13 PM. |

Jim,
This is so cool! When I bought the Firebird 35+ years ago there was a sticker in the back window for a high school in Connecticut. I wondered if the car originated there. Now I know, it stuck around in CT for a while. Either a teacher, or better yet some kid in high school had a great car!
