Not sure I'd call it call deck height, but believe we're on the same page.
Can go out & measure the distance from base of LH carrier bearing to the ring gear flange

2.56 & 2.78 were used on the high ratio carrier.
2.93-3.08-3.23 mounted on the mid ratio carrier.

To mount a 3.55 ring gear, will need a low ratio carrier, or in a huge pinch you could run, the low ratio ring ger on a mid ratio 8.2 Pontiac carrier using a Mr G 8.2 ring gear spacer & lib amt of locktite on the bolt threads. On Pontiac 8.2 carriers, keep in mind, in late '69 model, at least on Bird rears the carrier & ring gear went to 1/16" diam larger diam ring gear bolts which are LH thread. All '70-72 8.2 Pontiacs used the late 8.2 Pontiac style carrier & oem ring & pinion.

With carrier bearings installed on a low ratio 4 pinion Pontiac 8.2 carrier, measuring from the bench up to the ring gear mounting flange,

2.05"

3 series (2.93-3.23) is about 1.85", 2 series is about 1.68".
