Default Very nice 67 Sprint FB on BAT 4-speed with A/C

Very nice looking original Firebird. Already bid up to $24,000 with 6 days to go on the auction. I like it but out of my wallets range I am afraid.

Beautiful car. With AC and everything makes it a sweet ride.
What is a Delta Mark 10 CD ignition?

Delta Products Inc Mark 10 is a Capacitive Discharge system that connects between your points and your coil. It converted DC to AC, stepped the AC up to a few hundred volts, converted it back to DC and then used the points to trigger an SCR that fired this higher voltage through the stock coil. It had a switch on the side that put the regular system back in place if the Mark 10 failed. Delta sold this part through various outlets including as a put it together kit through the Heathkit Corporation.

In the early 70s I had a friend who built a kit version and couldn't get it to work. He gave it to me. I opened it up and cleaned a few cold solder joints. Put it in my 65 Chevelle and then moved it to my 77 Honda Accord once it was out of warranty. Worked great until I got rid of the Honda in 1989.

It looks like the ignition upgrade (very user freindly on an A/C equipped OHC-6) and the rear sway bar are the only noteworthy modifications to the car, and I suspect they were both added in the 1967-69 time period. I would love to own this one!

Very nice car indeed. A few things need to be “fixed” to make totally correct. I think they are at top dollar or very close.

Apart from being a convertible it's hard to envision a more desirable Sprint; minty California body, rare 4 speed, AC, rally gauges, nice colors, custom interior, factory paint rally's, unmolested. Rear mount antenna option is a nice esthetic touch too!

All I would do is get rid of whatever is causing it to sit jacked up in back, remove the aftermarket ignition, paint the grilles correctly and run a thin white or redline tire on it.

Funny to see so much stuff hanging off an OHC engine bay, I'm used to seeing my engine bay with manual everything and no AC. The AC, power steering and especially the smog pump really fill that engine bay. The fact that the smog pump survived is astounding! I would have yanked that the day I bought the car new in 67. That's a hell of a lot of weight hanging in front of the front wheels.

I am guessing it has air shocks on it, the mono leaf springs look worn out and almost flat.

As for the aftermarket ignition, I would keep it. If you have ever changed the points on an A/C equipped OHC-6 you will appreciate it!

Didn’t think of that, sort of like the upper passenger side alignment shims on an AC GTO I guess!

No such problems with mine. I just replaced them on my new 1bbl OHC (no AC) this morning, literally took 2 minutes plus 2 more to fine tune the dwell.

Got stupid and placed a bid on it this morning, but my bid is about my limit on this one, so I doubt I will end up with it. Wish me luck.

It figures that I sold off all of my 230 spare parts years ago.

My son asked me about the hood tach and I told him that's the real deal. 6500 rpm redline.

Thanks Rob! Hopefully I will need them.

I actually still have an aftermarket 67 Sprint Hood tach sitting on the shelf. Yup the 6500 rpm is a real deal.

Question to any 67 Firebird owners (I have never owned a 67 before) does the 67 rear axles have the mounting ears for the upper control arms used on an A-Body car? I just noticed in pictures 76, 77, & 78 that the axle on this car has the ears for the upper control arms. I don't remember them on any of my prior 68-79 Firebird rear axles?

"6500 rpm " 230 cid only. Tall tach was 67 only, sure looks original/faded/crumbling.

I thought that rear sway bar might be aftermarket but it looks like it has been on there forever.

Lots of stuff going on in the rear axle area. I am used the A bodies which are wide open compared the the Birds.

That is a very nice looking car. Good luck getting it!

Never heard of a rear anti-sway bar on these cars. Has the 2 radius rod bars which is correct for the Sprints with a manual. I have a 67 Sprint with AC and it looks correct.

Even has the "Sprint only with AC" 7 blade radiator fan, next to impossible to find. Don't damage it, you will never find another.

Only delta I see is the shifter and they disclosed that already

The only other thing I thought of is the tailshaft (no pictures) for the transmission. Not sure how they mounted the Hurst shifter with this tailshaft. Also can't confirm it has the damper weight on the end of it.

Yes Jeff the ears are there for the A body applications. The center casting was shared and carried into early 68 model year on the FB. No factory rear sway bar on any 67 FB. The shifter bezel is 68/69 style also. I can help you get it correct if you purchase it and or desire.

Thanks all, I have never owned a 67 or early 68 Firebird apparently. The 68 and 69 birds did not have the control arm mounts on it. I really like the car even with all the odd ball 67 only parts on it.
I just checked my NOS stash, and beleive it or not I still have a NOS 67 Sprint with A/C fuel pump & high idle solinoid. Maybe I was meant to have this car, fingers crossed!

And if I get it I will be in touch Rob, Beleive it or not I still have the transmission counter weight from my old 69 manual trans sprint bird.

Just doesn't feel right going by camerjeff on this sight and no longer owning a cammer! I have owned them almost without exeption every year from 1976 until 2019 when I sold Lilbird
