I don't know much about Judges, so can someone explain why the 455 engine option is not shown on the invoice?
And, if it is correctly not on the invoice, the obvious question is how do you spot a non-original 455 in a Judge if the paper work is missing? |

This is a $400,000 plus car in my opinion and it will be one neat auction to watch. Best of luck to Gary in getting his price and more.

Well...
It's at $128k now, thanks to a few bids by yours truly... Just couldn't help myself; figured it will make good water cooler conversation at work - "yeah, I was bidding on this car that sold for $475,000...got outbid at the last minute..."

The photos showing several of the cars look like those that appeared in Pontiac Enthusiast magazine about an "unidentified" Pontiac collector.
Unless bidding heats up, it doesn't look like it will match RAIV money. Stay tuned. Is Gary selling anything else in the moving sale besides the 64 and the 70? |

I'm not exactly sure if eBang is the absolute best place to pull the biggest bucks out of that Judge, but worth a try.
The Green LS6 Convertible that pulled something like 1.2 million at B-J was offered on eBang several times for 700,000 or 800,000 bucks and no takers. VERY DISAPPOINTED to learn that 455 isn't on invoice of these Cars (no-cost substitute). With only 17 built - most that survived would get lost and be mistaken as Ram III auto. I have already noticed many things that none of us knew for sure or mentioned in the 70 455 Judge thread (that turned into a wealth of knowledge about 70 455 Ram Air GTO's due to lack of Judge examples) from not too long ago. This Car is a gold mine of previously little known and non-existent information. I will post more on it later. |

The Pontiac magazine article a while back about big Pontiac collector on the east coast was indeed Gary Cave, the same man selling the 455 Judge convertible as you all can see from the pictures of the cars in the background. For obvious reasons in the article the less the general people knew about "the owner" and the location the better.

This car seems a little out of place for ebay. It looks like it was rushed to market as well. Maybe a little dusting, and a bath might make it a little more presentable?
I could see why he would pick this car to sell. Highly optioned, highly documented, very rare. But, doesn't air, auto, cruise, and 455 D/O actually hurt somewhat? If someone pays over 200K for this car they obvisiously disagree, and if someone pays 400K, then I will rethink everything I thought I knew about Pontiac muscle cars. But, the car is what the standard is for a true survivor car should be measured, and all others that say survivor car need to measure up to this prime example. |

Besides the rare engine option, the cruise and a/c aid in value tremendously. Most of these cars didn't have many luxury options to begin with and when a car as rare as this has some of them that makes it worth much more. Yes, performance is a plus and these options add weight but not many are going to race a $250,000 plus car these days. Just imagine if it was a four speed and had even more rare options like headlight delay, reclining seat, etc...
Steved400, The obvious reason is that the guy would have been hounded to death by all sorts of people showing up at his doorstep asking if the cars were for sale if the magazine revealed who and where he was. I sure wouldn't want my name all over a article like that either. Too many people would be knocking on your door. Last edited by Mark Simiele; 02-06-2006 at 11:47 AM. |

Mark
Is this your assessment or Mr. Cave’s? I have to disagree with it no matter whose it is, and I’ll tell you why. First; Mr. Cave is extremely accessible to anyone wishing to contact him, he is a GTOAA technical consultant and listed openly in The Legend. I have contacted him myself once, he is very friendly and had no problem talking to me. It also seems to be well known that he has a variety of rare Pontiacs; he would probably be willing to discuss any of them openly? I saw the mystery article in the Pontiac magazine, I thought it was a little strange but I respect privacy when wanted. Now for comparison and my point to disagree with what you posted. Gary Daniels is a comparable collector here in Tulsa; although he has never been approached for a magazine article, he has shared knowledge of his cars publicly. He also makes himself available to the public, just as Mr. Cave. Mr. Daniels has posted numerous things about his rarest cars on the internet, and I believe he would also do an article if approached by one of the magazines. Mr. Daniels has one of the 17 71 Judge Convertibles; and arguably one of the nicest. Mr. Daniels has let me post numerous times about this car and even let it known he would consider selling it, not one person has contacted him to date. Now as a joke I’ll say that maybe everyone thinks he’s an A hole, but I think the truth is that the majority of the Pontiac Community is intelligent. You will not have a rush of idiots contacting some one like Mr. Cave or Mr. Daniels out of place. The top collectors generally know each other, and make deals between each other without magazine coverage. The average person like myself; has no means to buy a $200,000 dollar plus rare Pontiac, and I would never contact Mr. Cave or Mr. Daniels for nonsensical bargain hunting. As I also believe the vast majority of the Pontiac Community would not either. I think we all respect the top collectors. Respectfully, Last edited by Steve Hoog; 02-06-2006 at 12:20 PM. |

Steved400, that's my view and I think the magazines writer as well in respecting his privacy. I agree with your thoughts since I personally look at us all of here as a very close knit group of people who respect each other and help out fellow enthusiasts. What I meant by "hounding" are the dealers and brokers who just want to flip these cars. People that are not the enthusiats we are and really love the hobby like we do.
