Default I missed the exit post.

Hadn't seen Cliff R post anything or respond as of late, so I went to his member page and read his exit post. Sorry to see him go. I learned a lot from his post and responses to others.. I'm basically a nobody here and a novice at best, therefore, I have no idea who anyone is good or bad. I will say that I hate to see that he has left. Good guy in my opinion. FWIW.

Loved his tag line
" If you can read this thank a teacher"

So long Cliff and thank you for all you gave to this community.

I had no idea that happened .
Thanks for giving us the heads up about Cliff Ruggles' decision to no longer be active on the PY Forums
.... due to an aggressive-stage of trolling .

High majority of us here are just hobbyists and enthusiasts.
Always great when any automotive professional or specialist is willing to interact with us.
Repeated badgering or multiple insulting comments are best left to the television shows that are designed around those negatives.

This isn't hollywood and nobody is getting paid for being here.

I have called Cliff, Pete Serio, and David Ray a few times each. All three were happy to spend an hour or more with me discussing their specialties (carbs, gauges and ignition systems) and other things we had in common. I always had a note pad handy for those golden nuggets of information.

Yet another sign the skids are now in control….

I have had my share of long conversations with Cliff. The guy didn't know me from Adam(Atom?) and treated me excellent. Never rushed me, always helped. Good guy and good for the hobby and Pontiac community.

Cliff does have a lot of knowledge. Lots of good information over the years. Also a lot of beating a dead horse to make points over and over and over again. A lot of stroking his own ego. Let's not be naïve here. Cliff made a lot of money via his involvement here. Nobody hurt his feelings and ran him off. He don't need this anymore.

well that's too bad.

I also didn't see that, or know this until it was posted.

Didn't this forum at one time have a "block" feature, which allowed you to not see posts by aggravating individuals?

Let's not mistake "beating a dead horse" for Cliff's passion for what he loves. As far as "stroking his own ego" he did write at least 3-4 automotive books that I know of. Yes he has made a living working on and teaching about cars, no crime in that. He never said no one hurt his feelings, he said he was tired of the trolls that continued to follow him on the board and argue when he was just offering his opinions for free. I have purposely tried to read everything he had ever posted on this board that is achieved and never found him to be offensive.

Again, I don't know the man, but I can read.

I'm not mistaking anything. I've read A LOT of his posts. Easy to see motives after a while. I'm not a star struck admirer of internet forum heroes like some.

I just don't see how bashing someone on the forum is a positive thing, but you are of course are entitled to your opinion. So for now the score appears to be 12 positives and 1 negative. No bad.

Agreed, I started the thread to let members know Cliff was gone. I discovered that this morning when I went to his member page to pm him a cam question.

If I thought my thread appreciating Cliff for his past comments here was going to induce other members to post negative comments about him, I would never have started the thread.

I was raised that if I didn't have something good to say about someone. Say nothing.

I use the forum to gain knowledge, I should have ignored the negative post. I guess I felt responsible since I started it by posting. Lesson learned.

Cliff has offered me free private advice through phone calls over the years. I am by no means a large customer but I bought my carb and torque convertor from him. You can tell a class act through conversation, phone and written. He is that. You can also tell the other kind.
