After more than 40 years of driving old cars with old parts, I decided to fit a new Lares power steering box that I bought from Summit. It has the faster steering ratio with about 2 1/2 turns lock to lock, compared with the old one of about 3 1/2. The steering box bolted up with no issue. Apart from quicker steering, the main thing I've noticed is the much increased effort required to turn the wheel. Don't get me wrong, it's still 'power steering' and I can still 'palm' the wheel when turning, but it's a lot heavier than the old steering box. Has anyone else had a similar issue and as this a new part, rather than reconditioned, is it likely to have a break in period and loosen up with some miles? Btw, I thoroughly flushed the pump and lines before filling it with fresh fluid.

I put one on my car recently and it is slightly stiffer but not a huge difference. I'm happy with it.

The faster ratio boxes are _generally_ higher effort on purpose. It may loosen up a bit, but it won't ever feel like the standard landbarge box.

I am thinking about getting the same box for my 1970 Lemans Sport. I am looking for a more modern feel to the steering.. Some have said that it too sensitive on the highway and you really need to pay attention. What is your opinion? Is the 10:1 too quick for highway use?

62, I got the Borgeson 800130 box at 12.7:1 & it is fine on the highway. Really not much different from stock.

This box has really good reviews. I believe it requires a different rag joint and adapters for the lines. Is that correct?

It came with adapters for the lines and a rag joint. The adapters are basically round discs like a washer for the stock lines to work and the joint looks like a polyurethane disc.

On the highway, it's fine. It just gives the feel of a more modern car. You won't change lanes when you sneeze...

You installed the part# 10972 box. Is that correct? Thanks for your reply. Just wanted to be sure that I order the same unit.

That's what I ordered. They also have the #201 rag joint/coupling. I ordered that as well...

Thanks again to all. Borgeson is a good option but I don’t want to change the fittings and the rag joint. I have a new one from Ames.

62, I should have clarified the adapters look like a small wedding band and fit in the threaded female part of the box. Stock lines then work. Very easy and mine don't leak.

I’m still unsure of which box to order. Thanks for the info on the hoses. I have already spent $50 on the new coupler. I really don’t want to buy a more expensive box and not use it. Too many choices is sometimes a bad thing.
