The intake plenum is a lot more sensitive to plenum height than most assume.
That being said, as Steve posted, if it is a street car giving up 8-10 hp is a non issue. Tom V.

Speaking of getting under hood, My Paisan ditched his high port heads with cut down Victor intake and went with E-heads North Wind intake and made 810 hp on pump gas. We collaborate on motor build, he made all the decisions. It’s a gorgeous 1970 Firebird completely street legal.

Currently working on a nostalgic build using a 428 with ported RAIV heads topped with a S-K tunnel ram and a pair of Ford 4201/4202 carburetors.

The Northwind is shorter but has a deeper plenum than a Victor.

I think the Northwind with a 1" spacer is still shorter than a Victor. I can't imagine trying to run the Northwind without a half inch spacer minimum. I'd rather rework a HSD if I couldn't fit a spacer on the NW.

Dan Barton did allot of work to Northwind intake, it wasn’t that good out of the box, but he’s happy happy got it all under the hood. Real nice sleeper. 9’s here we come.

Yes..almost 1” shorter then Victor, he thinks he can get 1” spacer in there.

I should’ve said made 810 hp, with 1” spacer.

The problem was the high port are close to 1” taller then the E-heads to begin with. Because of the rise port in the HP. The Victor that was matched to hp was done be Dan. Still with the E-Head and northwind he made close to 70 more hp.

Guess we'll have to take your word that hp heads and victor were 70hp less than e-heads and nw intake

Not my word, I have no reason to question his word. The High port were originally done by Kauffman but didn’t flow the numbers they said on another flow bench. The E-heads do flow 387 cfm @ 750 lift after the second go around. Because someone bench was off on the first. Second time they did 387 cfm was back up on another bench.

Dan did allot of work to that Northwind. So it’s not something that works out of the box.

They probably do depending on the application. I’m not one to question Dan
