Default 1991 FBird lock issue

Guys
a mate has a 1991 FB doing a complete rebuild and while fixing the Ing lock he has sprung out the retainer clip that runs along the barrel in that small grove.
We can not find it little @#$t .
Do we need it ?
we looked up the manual and could see the reference to it put no pictures good enough or even detail what its used for .

Can someone help us please

If its what I'm thinking of it holds everything tight and helps the steeringwheel lock retainer plate stay inplace.
